My first video using the current-release X68000 core, and boy is this a special game! An important piece of 3D gaming's history and the predecessor to early experiments in 3D on the PlayStation with the original Spring Man demo which eventually led to Jumping Flash! and Ghost in the Shell. This was made by Exact- the same developers of Etoile Princesse in my previous video.

Geograph Seal is not only impressive on a technical level for an early 3D game in it's various gameplay modes and environments, but also with it's control implementation. It is truly amazing what they were able to achieve with a two-button controller here. The HUD is also well implemented as a combination of both form and function. The variety of weapons feel great to use and are all useful in different scenarios.

I'm using the X68000 core's CPU Turbo function in this playthrough, which makes for a very smooth experience compared to the base model clock speed. I recommend leaving the display frequency at "Original" instead of "60fps", as the game feels smoother that way. For controls, a Sega Saturn style D-Pad worked best for me.

Here is the control scheme:
A - Jump (Hold for higher jump. Press/hold again mid-jump for a double jump)
B - Fire (hold- Watch for overheat!)
B+A (hold) - Free aim+fire (tips: Hold B before A. Turn off "A+B menu" in options.)
Double-tap A - Bombardment Jump (Jump and look down- use to jump on enemies while firing and for precise platforming. Hold for higher jump.)
Double-tap B - Change Weapon (Can turn this off in options if preferred.)
Hold Left or Right D-Pad while jumping - Strafe (very useful!)
Select - Menu (Map/Change Weapon)

Thanks to Puu for the original implementation to FPGA, and to Wark for further work on that. Currently Kitrinx and Sorg are working heavily on the core to implement things correctly and smooth out some rough edges to make the system easier to use with modern displays and hardware.

*NOTE - There may be some stutter in scrolling due to the system's display output of 55hz. The core has a 60fps option to help smooth this out, but either way the scrolling will look better in-person on a compatible display compared to what is captured in videos. 60fps mode may speed up gameplay by ~9% if the game uses raster interrupt.
