MiSTer FPGA - Trick Trap (ラビリンス·ランナー) [1cc] / Konami Arcade
This lesser-known Konami arcade game was released publicly by Jotego on Friday. Having never heard of it before, I gave it a try and found it to be a short-but-sweet little top-down shooter with easy to pick up controls. It's a bit on the easy side, especially considering its length, but I still found it an enjoyable game for the most part. Two player mode is alternating, which is rare for a game like this. Probably so they didn't have to re-balance the game for simultaneous play.
The name doesn't really fit the game either way you look at it. It's not especially tricky or filled with traps, though I guess you can "trap" enemies with trick shots via the laser and bomb weapons. The original Japanese name "Labyrinth Runner" is even more unsuited for the game, with the game only having 2 or 3 "maze" areas, and all of them being *very* simple.
I happened to have my 24 inch consumer Trinitron CRT (KV-24FV300) rotated on it's side for some Spy Hunter and Dodonpachi action this week, so it was a nice coincidence that this is a TATE game. Was really awesome playing in the original orientation on a large CRT. That's how I played while recording this video.
Give this one a try if you want to experience something different from 80's Konami. Worth a play for sure, and its publicly available now if you run Jotego's updater.
