MiSTer FPGA - Dimahoo (グレート魔法大作戦) [TATE] / Capcom CPS-2 Arcade [BETA]
0This video is in TATE orientation because I just love the look of the vertical scanlines in this game, and wanted to capture a bit of that for a video. Playing/watching sideways does not detract from the game much either, but the intro is a bit funky that way. If you have a rotatable display, consider flipping it for this one! Otherwise if it bothers you too much that this is in TATE, then maybe lay down sideways while watching. ^-^
Dimahoo is pretty awesome. Today is my first time playing the game, with this video being my 3rd run for it, and the first time I've used this ship "Grimlen the Necromancers". Was cycling through trying them all out and decided to record for this one after playing a stage and learning what the shot and bomb are like. Seems a good mix of speed and power, though the bomb seems rather lacking. Speed is slower than other ships, which I actually found beneficial when learning this game. It does mean that you can't go for powerups as often- but there are plenty thrown at you during the game so don't sweat it if you miss some.
Graphics and audio are top notch in this 8ing/Raizing-developed bullet hell shooter. There is a metal vibe to everything and it's hard as nails once you get past the first couple levels. Dimahoo is the 3rd entry in a series that includes the previous arcade releases "Sorcer Striker" and "Kingdom Grand Prix". There are four secret ships you can access in the game, with two of them being from the previous entries in the series, and the other two from Armed Police Batrider. This trilogy of shooters was never ported to any home consoles, so having the most technically advanced of the trio in its original form on FPGA is quite nice. Hoping the others are taken up by an ambitious developer who would like to see 8ing/Raizing awesomeness fully represented on MiSTer also.
I'll be returning to this one for a better run in the future, but would like to finish practicing Dodonpachi first, since I've had that on the backburner for a while and only play it when my large consumer CRT is rotated, as it is currently. Unless the Dodonpachi core is fixed so that I can record upright while playing on CRT in TATE orientation, it will be a similar video to this one.
