Mo Willems’ “Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed” - 2009 Picture Book Review
This is a review of my 2011 copy of the 2009 Picture Book Classic, “Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed,” by acclaimed author Mo Willems. This copy was published by Scholastic Inc. by arrangement with Hyperion Books for Children, an imprint of Buena Vista Books LLC. The book follows a young Naked Mole Rat named Wilbur, who is ridiculed by the other Naked Mole Rats for his passion to wear clothes. Specifically a trio named Tiny, Nerdy and Max try to take Wilbur down. They were so disgusted at Wilbur’s passion for clothes that they sarcastically said that if he liked clothes so much, why doesn’t he open a store. Then, they took Wilbur to the portrait of the colony’s leader, Grandpah to convince him to not wear clothes, but he simply said “Why Not?” The trio then went and told Grandpah himself all about Wilbur, but to their surprise, Grandpah made a proclamation in support of Wilbur and his passion for clothes. All the Naked Mole Rats had a great time after Grandpah’s proclamation - they had a party! I hope you enjoy the show and have fun with Wilbur as he learns that being a misfit isn’t bad at all. 🐀👕👔👖🧦
