Momodora: Reverie Under The Moonlight Boss #01 Arthropod Demon Edea (No Damage)
Difficulty Played: Hard (Don't have Insane unlocked on PC)
So, this game is pretty hard when comparing it to other similar titles. It's meant to be unforgiving and force you to learn from your mistakes. You die 20+ times on a boss? Well, it's usually your fault. Learn the patterns, etc.
The only difference in difficulty is your health bar that I've noticed. And, well, more common enemy spawn locations. You do the same amount of damage across difficulties. On Easy it's massive, Normal is more standard size, on Hard, well, you see what it is. On "Insane" it's a little less, almost a sliver. It doesn't matter though, outside of Easy, bosses will kill you in 2-3 hits, except Insane, which is 1 hit kills, pretty much, even with Health Upgrades.
So, why no damage runs on bosses? If you beat a boss without taking damage, they'll drop a special item that usually can't be obtained elsewhere. Or if it can, it costs too much munny.
Something to note, is the game doesn't just register boss damage. There are items you can get later, that take health away to strengthen your attacks. Do NOT use this during the fight, as they count as taking damage and will forfeit your item. Use them before fight triggers.
Anyway, onto the boss. You face this boss after the tutorial section of Sacred Ordalia Grove. and even on Normal, if you're trying to bulldoze it, she will kill you in about three hits, if she lands them. Players of Momodora III will recognize its name as the same as the statuette accessory found in the Bellflower Gardens. Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight takes place before the other three games.
So, what are her attacks?
If you are too close to her, she'll do a quick claw swipe. This attack can come out fast and catch you off guard. Rolling away from her is the best way to avoid it, as you get i-frames during your roll.
She will spew a poison cloud at you, which will do no damage initially but will poison you and forfeit your no damage.
She will spit out a poison bomb that explodes. The explosion will damage and poison you. It also leaves behind a cloud that can poison you as well.
Her last attack she moves forward and flings her tail at you.
Be careful of the left side of the arena too, as poison clouds will come out of the ground.
Her body can't be damaged, so you have to aim for her soft upper body/head, either by jumping and melee attacking or spamming arrows at the height of your jumps. She does have another spot you can attack, and that's her tail, primarily the orb on it. If you can get an attack on it when she flings her tail at you, you can do a ton of damage to her. Despite being the first boss in the game, she's not the easiest (In my opinion) but she's still relatively easy once you know her pattern.
For doing no damage, she drops the Edea's Pearl, which when equipped as an accessory, adds a poison effect to your arrows. This is a really good item, in my opinion, and I'll be using it for the majority of the upcoming fights. The only thing you note is the poison cloud it leaves behind CAN poison you as well, so you need to be mindful.
