Difficulty Played: Hard (Don't have Insane unlocked on PC)

So, this game is pretty hard when comparing it to other similar titles. It's meant to be unforgiving and force you to learn from your mistakes. You die 20+ times on a boss? Well, it's usually your fault. Learn the patterns, etc.

The only difference in difficulty is your health bar that I've noticed. And, well, more common enemy spawn locations. You do the same amount of damage across difficulties. On Easy it's massive, Normal is more standard size, on Hard, well, you see what it is. On "Insane" it's a little less, almost a sliver. It doesn't matter though, outside of Easy, bosses will kill you in 2-3 hits, except Insane, which is 1 hit kills, pretty much, even with Health Upgrades.

So, why no damage runs on bosses? If you beat a boss without taking damage, they'll drop a special item that usually can't be obtained elsewhere. Or if it can, it costs too much munny. This bosses drop can be picked up in another location, prior to this fight, however, when she drops it, it adds to the overall uses you can use of it.

Something to note, is the game doesn't just register boss damage. There are items you can get later, that take health away to strengthen your attacks. Do NOT use this during the fight, as they count as taking damage and will forfeit your item. Use them before fight triggers.

Anyway, onto the boss. You face this boss in the Forlorn Monastery. Overall the path to her is simple. The Monastery is not a very big area, however, you do need to talk to Cotillard at the bottom part of the Monastery so she'll hand over the Monastery Key, which opens the door leading to Fennel's area.

So, what are her attacks?
She will summon bolts of lightning. You're giving a quick flash of warning before it strikes
She will dash, some times twice depending on your distance from her, then do two sword swings.
She will leap quite a distance and then slam her sword into the ground. This also cause a purple fog that will Curse you if touched. This prevents you from healing.
In phase two, when she lights her sword aflame(?), she gains an additional attack to her dash attack, where she will do a jumping spin slash. This move DOES track, so be careful of it
She also has a back flip which just puts her out of your melee range if you're attacking melee

Despite Fennel being the third on the list, she is, in my opinion, one of the hardest to do a No Damage run on. Just my opinion. But again, after the second boss, we can go where we please pretty much and I choose to knock the hardest one off my list. I do have the "strong" item combinations, but I forgot to use them for this fight. Anyway, to explain. I have Necklace of Sacrifice, which increases Kaho's attack by 100% when on low health, on top of the Tainted Missive, which when used, drains health and boosts attack by 100% so at the start of any given fight from here on out, I can have 200% attack damage for a brief time before it drops to 100% - Taking damage by the floating skull was intentional, as I thought i had the Necklace equipped, so was using the Skull to get my health as low as possible to trigger the effect... Sadly, I didn't have it on.

For doing no damage, she drops the Tainted Missive, which when equipped as an active item, ca be used to drain your own health in exchange for 100% damage increase for a brief time. Careful of this item though, if you're too low on health, you can kill yourself with its use. Not very becoming of a priestess!
