【Monty Python's Flying Circus - DOS Abandonware】 Squiggy's Abandonware Adventures (Free DOS Games)
Today we have Monty Python's Flying Circus for DOS, which is a primo piece of adandonware in my opinion. You know you're going to have a unique experience when you play a Monty Python video game, and this does not disappoint on that front.
The gameplay, sound and graphics for this game may not be the best, but it all pales in comparison to the creativity and general design of the game. This is fun because of what they did with it more than any other part of it such as the gameplay. You boot it up and it asks you to identify cheeses for the copyright protection, which I luckily was able to guess, but that right there tells you what you're in for. It's that classic Monty Python zaniness that I've loved since I first watched Monty Python and the Holy Grail when I was just a kid. I'll always have a special place for the humour of Monty Python.
And, to awkwardly loop back around to an earlier point, that's not to say the graphics, sound and gameplay are necessarily bad -- this game is pretty fun all in all. It's a little clunky and it's not quite as exciting as other games in the genre, but it's still very much playable. It does the "multiple game concepts in one" thing, with the fish levels and boot levels and classic platforming levels, so that keeps it pretty interesting. When you couple the average but amusing gameplay with the excessive creativity and put it all in a Monty Python world, you find yourself with an experience worth having. I know I'll always remember this one.
Thanks for stopping by friends. I hope you enjoyed the episode, this one was a lot of fun to record. Feel free to check out the other abandonware episodes in the playlist below. I suggest the Ragnarok one, that's still one of my favourite videos I've made just for the pure nostalgia.
---[ Series Information ]---------------
Squiggy's Abandonware Adventures is a series where I play through Abandonware games. Abandonware games are games so old that their copyright is no longer being enforced, usually because the original company distributing the game no longer exists. As such, they are in a legal gray area where they aren't quite legal to pirate, but no one is around to protect the original IP. For the most part they are old DOS games, but they may be from other older systems such as the Commodore 64.
