Hardware & Design

The Verizon Droid 3 by Motorola is what you would expect from a sequel in the Smartphone industry. Design wise the device is similar to previous Droids by Motorola. Though design is similar the Droid 3 does back a lot that sets it aside and differentiates it from previous version. First of the Droid 3 carries a 4' qHD screen, which provides vibrant colors and also provides for better viewing in sunlight as seen in our Battle vid of qHD vs Super AMOLED +. A front facing VGA camera for video chat, an 8MP camera with flash that records at 1080p, 16GB of internal storage and expandable by microSD card slot. and a mini HDMI-Out port. That is all powered by a dual core 1Ghz processor for T.I

The Droid 3 also has a 5 row QWERTY keyboard with a dedicated number row, the keyboard feels solid and give a smooth typing experiences. Its one of the better QWERTY keyboards on the market and a welcome addition for Verizon customers for have a lack of QWERTY keyboard deices on the network. The Motorola Droid 3 is world phone and does come with a sim card preinstalled. The sad part though is that the device is 3G here only state side and not part of Verizon's 4G LTE

Software

The Droid 3 runs the latest version of Android, Android 2.3.4, with a custom Motorola Overlay called Blur or formerly know as MotoBlur. So why the deviation from stock Android and how does it benefit the device. First of I will admit, I generally dislike custom overlays of Android. But here Motorola has done a good job introducing features and a slick flow that centers around usability rather than forcing features on consumers. For pre-installed apps you have you standard Verizon apps with a few other such as Slacker, Citrix, Blockbuster, Amazon Kindle, GoToMeeting and games such as Let's Golf 4 and Nova HD.

Conclusion

The Motorola Droid 3 is what I call a worth successor to the Original Droid name. Yes there are issues with the device, There are some noticeable slow downs, Motorola still doesn't know how to make a good camera for taking pictures. and it is a 3G only device (NO 4G LTE). Besides that, the device feels comfortable, the QWERTY keyboard is sublime, Blur actually works well without distracting you from the Android experience and it really reminds me of the original Droid which was a success and and should be too.
