Here's FSX running PERFECTLY on Windows 8.1. It's not crippled, and it doesn't crash EVER. And no other software 'patches' needed. You don't even need to use the Compatibility function.

For install error 1722, use this software reset tool -https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/928080

Well, this happens everytime a new OS comes out. I've been working with Windows since 2.0 and FS since DOS versions.

I always embrace the new OS because it will give us new, exciting features. I just rather we not get caught up in opinions about the OS or the interface. I happen to like it and understand why MS had to change. But Windows is THE most backwardly compatible OS out there.

Will it support every legacy program? Come on, there are literally MILLIONS of software applications that run on Windows. Some will fall to the side, remembered fondly.

But the good news is, FSX is not one of them, at least not yet.

I had already had 5.1 running in DOS box and 2004 running as well. But I didn't own FSX. Since MS Flight is just a flying game and not a simulator (don't even want to talk about the whole DLC thing), I decided to buy FSX and get it to run on Windows 8.1. I had alredy found out that 2004's glitches with the aircraft preview were fixed with Windows 8.1, so I decided, what the heck and ordered a copy of FSX Gold.

Once my new copy of FSX Gold came yesterday, I went through a complete install and testing cycle. First with just FSX, then tested. Then with FSX SP1 and test, then with the Accelleration Pack and tested. Basically FSX kept crashing. It seemed it crashed more with certain airfcraft and scenery, but nothing consistent. The only thing I didn't test was SP2 since I had the Accelleration Pack and MS says not to install SP2 or at least uninstall SP2 before you install the Accelleration Pack.

After hours of adjusting every display setting, then testing, crashing, changing, testing again I was about to give up. Then I tried one last thing. Of course it's alway the last thing because you stop when you fix it.

So the video walks through the install, patches and testing and finally the configuration of the display settings to get FSX running. I hope this fixes it for all systems including those with different processors and video cards.
