MtG Arena - A Quick Overview
In this video I look at Magic the Gathering: Arena. The newest online version of MtG, MtG: Arena is basically magic but if it had Hearthstone's client and UI. It's a lot of fun although similar to Hearthstone, the economy can be somewhat rough on f2p players.
The Good:
- Client looks and feels great. Easy to navigate and the UI is fairly intuitive.
- It's Magic but online and with a good client. You can play standard from your PC without having to resort to MODO.
- The animations for mythics and some rares are sweet.
- Priority for instants and flash spells works fairly well.
The Bad:
- Economy is a little stingy and there's no player trading.
- Acquiring bulk mythics or rares for a deck is difficult as you want to reserve wildcards (Cards that can be traded for any card of the same rarity) for staples such as Lyra, Karn, or Teferi.
- There's no modern, legacy, pauper, or EDH formats (Although singleton comes and goes). However, there are rumours that Arena will have it's own modern format starting from SoI or Kaladesh onwards.
- MODO is still supported and with Artifact on the horizon MtG:Arena is facing some stiff competition.
Overall I'm enjoying the game. It's fun to be able to play standard on a modern client from the comfort of my own home. I do wish more cards/packs were given for free (I could really use some rare lands for multicolour decks) but overall the game is fun to just dive in and play.
