NES Challenge - Zombie Nation in 26:04 [210/714]
What was that?!?!!! X-D That game is clearly not on enough TOP 10 lists for ridiculousness. It is a mid level shooter, nothing to write home about in difficulty; just watch out for the stage hazards like lightning, smoke, and avoid touching the actual enemies - particularly the ones that take a dozen shots to take down. A head shooting eyeballs and vomiting is truly unforgettable though.
So graphics are really good, sound it pretty decent too. As for control, it is a bit jumpy, but not horrible and the firing is really good. The story is where the charm clearly is though - a floating head taking down buildings and zombies in NYC and around the US? Yes please! Really the only thing I miss is more levels. That took less than 30 minutes, I haven't touched it in over 20 years, and on a regular controller. Using an Advantage or Max controller and it becomes a disappointment. I did play it on the easy more, but there is no change in the credits so no real reason to play on hard unless this is one of those games given to you and you had a smaller collection.
So with all that in mind, ranking this game is really hard. It's put together well, the plot is hilarious, but it is short and how often are you going to pull this back out? Really wish I knew someone who had this as a kid to get their impression. I feel I am going to tentatively place it in the 250 - 350 range. I have to beleive there are more than 250 games that are better on the NES, but I know it's not in the bottom of the library.
