The Nigerian Government has enter an agreement with Japan to fight terrorism, Boko Haram, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of instability in the Sahel region.
The Sahel region is made up of Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Sudan, Senegal, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Mali, Burkina Faso and Mauritania.
Addressing journalists at a joint news conference in Abuja, after a close door meeting with the Japanese delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kamikawa Yoko, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar said the move will lead to stability and growth of the Sahel region.
The Japan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kamikawa Yoko who spoke through an interpreter said ending terrorism and other forms of security challenges in the Sahel region is top on the collaboration plans with Nigeria.
She said, the two countries shared similar views about need for reform at the United Nations Security Council, for a balanced geographical representation, need for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation of arms as well as increased advocacy for Women, Peace and Security.
Meanwhile, the two countries have called for more engagements to increase the volume of trade despite its current robust economic relations.
