Ninja Ryukenden (NES/FC) - Longplay
Ninja Gaiden (忍者 龍 剣 伝 Ninja Ryukenden, "The Legend of the Ninja with the Dragon Sword") is a Japanese computer platform game released in December 1988 by Tecmo for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was developed simultaneously with the beat 'em up game of the same name, intended for arcade machines, although in reality it has almost nothing to do with it. In March 1989, the release took place in North America, in September 1991 - in Europe, while the European version was called Shadow Warriors. In 1992, the game was ported to the PC Engine, in 1995, a version for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System was released as part of the Ninja Gaiden Trilogy compilation. Four separate episodes were planned for mobile phones, although only one of them eventually appeared, since 2007 Ninja Gaiden is available on the Virtual Console service.
The story begins with a sword duel, during which one of the duelists slays the other. Soon after, young Ryu receives a farewell letter from his father, Ken Hayabusa, in which he asks his son to travel to America and find an archaeologist named Walter Smith. Barely crossed the ocean, the hero is put to sleep by a gas pistol by a mysterious stranger - later the same girl gives him a sinister statuette and helps him escape from the captivity of unknown kidnappers. Ryu visits Walter, an aged scientist talks about two figurines, light and darkness, which, together with Ken, he once discovered among the ancient ruins of the Amazon. He also mentions a legend according to which the figurines are the home of an evil alien demon, defeated and sealed 700 years ago by the brave shinobi. Ryu shows the recently obtained statuette of darkness to the archaeologist, but a robber suddenly appears in the room and snatches it out of the characters' hands, and then tries to hide. The hero pursues and defeats the intruder, but upon his return it turns out that another attack was made on Walter's house - they stole the statuette of light kept from him. The dying old man warns of a possible disaster if both relics are in bad hands. Immediately after Walter's death, men in black armed with pistols enter the room and force Ryu to follow with them.
The strangers turn out to be CIA agents, in the interrogation room a certain Foster, the head of the special intelligence department, speaks with the hero. Foster talks about a temple in the thicket of the Amazonian forests, built about 2,000 years ago. Walter managed to find this temple, but upon learning of the possibility of the demon's release, the archaeologist decided to seal it so that no one else would reveal this secret. Despite this, all the attention of the agents is now focused on a man named Guardia de Mie, better known as Jaco, who somehow managed to get inside. After capturing both figurines, he plans to awaken an ancient demon and, with his help, gain power over the whole world. Foster orders Ryu to go to the temple and eliminate the troublemaker. Upon arrival, the character finds out that the villain is holding hostage a girl who recently gave him a statuette of darkness. Due to the threat of reprisal against her, the hero has to lay down his arms and give the relic, after which he falls into a trap and finds himself in the catacombs.
Ryu overcomes the difficult and dangerous path from the base of the temple to the very peaks and defeats bloody Malta, the cursed warrior who is Jaco's right hand. Before his death, Malte reports that it was he who fought with Ryu's father in a duel, and Ken actually did not die - the protagonist will meet with him in the very near future. Reaching the top of the temple, Ryu actually finds his father alive, however, he is under the control of an ominous statue. The hero destroys the sculpture protruding from the wall, and Ken regains consciousness. The joy of the meeting does not last long - Jaco himself appears in the chambers and tries to kill Ryu with a powerful magic blow, but Ken takes the shot and, being seriously wounded, saves his son. A fierce duel between Ryu and Jaco ends with the death of the latter, but at the same time a lunar eclipse occurs, and the figurines turn into a giant demon. After defeating the monster, the temple begins to collapse, Ken realizes that his injury is incompatible with life, and asks his son to save the girl. The epilogue begins with a conversation between the girl and Foster, via satellite communication, the boss orders her to kill Ryu and take the demonic figurines from him - she, violating the order, throws out the phone. The rescued woman calls her name to the savior - Irene Lew, and two from the top of the cliff watch the rising sun.
