Nintendo Switch VS Switch OLED VS Switch 2 Loading Speed Tests
Any time you upgrade your hardware, from one generation to the next, you are expecting some sort of performance upgrade, right? With the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, one of the things I was hopeful for was that we'd see some key performance upgrades in some specific areas. The load times for the news app has been pretty bad on the original Switch, and the Switch OLED isn't much better. Worse than that is the load time of certain games, and going through the eShop is downright painful. Let's take a look at the original Switch vs the Switch OLED vs the Switch 2 as we do some loading speed tests.
eShop
Loading the Switch eShop is like molasses on a cold day with the Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED. If you think the load time is bad, scrolling through the eShop is even worse. On the Switch 2, however, the Nintendo eShop loads like a champ, and scrolling through the menus is a delight. This was a major pain point of the original Switch Family, so I am thrilled to see this has been addressed with the Switch 2.
Loading Games
It is hard to compare how the same game loads on 2 different systems unless you have 2 copies, and the only game where that's the case for me is Animal Crossing. Ok, technically, my wife and youngest daughter each have a copy. I wasn't going to test the original Switch but going head to head with the Switch OLED and Switch 2 seemed to be a more accurate test. I was shocked at how much more quickly the Switch 2 loaded Animal Crossing loaded this, it was huge!
News Feed
While I didn't show it due to some wonky technical issues, I did test the news feed between each of the 3 systems. Not unexpectedly, the Switch OG was the slowest out of all of them, the Switch OLED 2nd, and the best was again the Switch 2.
It is amazing to see the difference in speed performance between each generation of Nintendo Switch Hardware. Is this something you expected or have experienced yourself? Share your experiences in the comments!
