I have a theory when it comes to the Nintendo Switch 2: I don’t believe that scalpers or the secondary market is going to be very profitable because I think Nintendo has every intention of meeting demand. Here, not quite 2 weeks after the launch of the system, I have not seen any show up on the local Facebook Marketplace, and talking to the local stores they’re not getting people trying to sell or trade them in. On a recent trip to Costco I was able to find the Switch 2 Pro Controller 2, but just one and no systems. Today I had to head back to that same Costco for some dog food, and there it was. I found the motherload of Nintendo Switch 2 combo packs!

I didn’t quite know what to expect when I went into the store, but something just told me that they would have systems on hand and in-stock, and I wasn’t disappointed. Just into the store, past the entrance was a huge floor display with stacks and stacks of combo cards you could take to the front of the store to get a system. While the combo wasn’t less expensive than just the system other places, it was a better value. For $524.99 you got:

The Switch 2 Console
The Digital Download of Mario Kart World
A 12-month subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online Service and Expansion Pack

While you can get the system with the game for only $499 elsewhere, the value is in the Switch Online Service. That level of the service would normally cost you $50 separately, so you’re basically getting it at half price, a darn great value if you ask me. With the Switch Online Service you can access retro games from the NES, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, and now the Nintendo GameCube. Plus, if you have certain Switch 1 titles, Breath of the Wild, Mario Odyssey and more, you also get free access to the Switch 2 Upgrade packs.

I think this is a pretty great deal, and an even better sign that Nintendo has, indeed, planned properly for scalpers. I’m glad to see that, no far after launch, if you want a system you’ll be able to get one.

Have you seen the Switch 2 in the wild yet? Have you gotten a system? Let me know in the comments!
