Assessing The Nintendo Switch 2 Strengths & Weaknesses 2 Weeks Later
When the Nintendo Switch 2 was announced, I was not the most excited for it, but I knew it would be a system I would pick up to create content with for the channel and because I love 1st party Nintendo Games. Now that I have had the system and played it every day for the past 2 weeks I do have some opinions on it. Let's take a look as we assess the Nintendo Switch 2 Strengths and Weaknesses 2 weeks later after the launch of the system.
Display:
How could the Switch 2 NOT have an OLED display, the masses cried after the system was unveiled. Let me tell you, the Switch 2 display is excellent and I dare say it rivals the Switch OLED's. Now, I think the blacks aren't quite as good on the Switch 2 as the original, but the brightness and viewing angles are every bit as good.
Pricing:
As much as I may enjoy the system, the Switch 2 is not worth the $449 or $499 price tag, it's just not. It's a good system and I think a bump to $399 could have been defended, but the extra cost just hurts the overall value and, as many have stated, makes fans feel taken advantage of.
Mario Kart World
This is a really fun game, but at the same time I don't think it is a better Mario Kart Game than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I'm not just talking about tracks and characters, but the racing itself isn't as good. It's fun and I hope we get DLC like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did, but it has room for improvement.
Handheld Mode
I've not been a fan of the Original Switch or Switch OLED in handheld mode. I've also not liked the Steamdeck in Handheld either. I preferred the Switch Lite, but I have to say this is my favorite Switch in handheld mode to date. I've also used table top mode quite a bit too!
Pro Controller 2
The Switch 2 Pro Controller 2 is amazing, it is very comfortable and those sticks, man, they are buttery smooth!
GameCube Controller
I'm less of a fan of the GameCube Nintendo Switch Online controller than the Pro Controller 2. It feels good in the hands but the triggers leave a lot to be desired in my opinion. It's still better than the N64 controller, though.
Battery Life
I know some have had issues with their Switch 2 Battery, I have not. It's had a similar performance to the Switch OLED for me.
Not compatible with Switch 1 Docks
I know this has to do with a 20v voltage setting vs 15v on the original Switch Dock, but that just seems beyond stupid to me. People complain about the cost of games and key cards, the lack of backward compatibility with the Switch 1 docks with the Switch 2 is frustrating. More so the fact the Switch 1 can't work with the Switch 2 dock either! It's a Switching Power Supply, let it switch!
