Earlier today, Nintendo dropped their Nintendo Direct for Donkey Kong Country Bananza and, while I was already looking forward to the game this got me even more excited. In a lot of ways it reminded me of Wreck It Ralph, with the relationship between Venelope von Schweetz and Ralph being mirrored by a young Pauline and Donkey Kong. Looking at all the different gameplay features, the characters, and just the work that has gone into this game it just looks fantastic. But then, about 2/3rds of the way through the Direct we got a bomb that I am not seeing a lot of others discuss. It appears that Nintendo low-key announced that Donkey Kong Bananza can run on the original Nintendo Switch Switch OLED, and Switch Lite! Here’s what I mean.

Donkey Kong Bananza features Nintendo’s Game Share Feature, so you can share and play the game between yourself and someone who doesn’t have a copy of the game. Most of the time you’d assume that it works platform to platform, so Switch to Switch, Switch 2 to Switch 2. Nintendo confirmed that Game Share is part of the game, but not only that but a version of cross platform Game Share was revealed. That means you can Game Share from your Nintendo Switch 2 to an ORIGINAL Switch! Technically this means you can run a Nintendo Switch 2 game, or at least part of it, on original Switch Hardware!

I, for one, am excited for this as my youngest isn’t the best at platformers, and I normally need to help her throughout levels in games like Princess Peach Showtime or Mario Wonder. With Game Share, she’ll be able to play and control Pauline on her Switch Lite while I handle the heavy lifting with DK on the Switch 2. For us, this is a great feature and benefit if she doesn’t want to play on the TV with me. It also confirms that the Nintendo Switch 2 games aren’t even coming close to using all the hardware on board and that the original Switch can still hang in there.

What do you think about this revelation? Did you even notice this in the Nintendo Direct? Share your thoughts in the comments!
