No Man's Sky - How To Learn Crafting Recipes (NOT BLUEPRINTS!) (PS4 Gameplay)
So. How do you find more Crafting Recipes? Although the early game tutorial/story progression on how to power your Warp Drive DOES cover it, I know a lot of people don't pay attention to tutorials and want to play their own way.
You can find Crafting Recipes in Manufacturing Facilities. How do you find Manufacturing Facilities? With our old friend, the Signal Scanner. The same rules still apply, in that you need to craft a Bypass Chip, (10 Plutonium, 10 Iron), every time you want to use a Signal Scanner, even on subsequent uses of the same Scanner. Once you do, the option you want to select is "Colonial Outpost". And once again, you will not always get a Manufacturing Facility, but that IS what you are looking for.
Once you arrive at the Facility, you will need to pull a little bit of B&E'ing by destroying the Reinforced Door protecting the Facility. As soon as you start shooting the door you will get an instant Wanted Level. How you deal with the Sentinels is up to you.
Once you are inside, activate the main console. You will be given a multiple choice question, and it will often be somewhat cryptic. There is typically a clue to the correct answer in the bottom left of the screen, but it is, of course, in the Alien Language. So, the more you know of the Language of the Race that owns the Facility, the better your odds of success. Be careful what you choose, as you only have one shot. Choose wrong, and the terminal locks down and you will probably get nothing.
However, that is not always the case. One time I "chose wrong" and I did not receive a Crafting Recipe, but I did receive some resources and a Blueprint. The reason I knew it was the "wrong" choice is because when you make the "right" one, the red lights and alarm shut down. And you get a Crafting Recipe.
Now, I'm sure this is by no means the only way to get the Crafting Recipes. However, if you want to farm some out so you don't always have to rely on Traders/The Galactic Market to get all the parts you might need for other Crafting Recipes or Blueprints, this can get the job done. You might even be able to craft materials into components that are even more valuable than the sum of it's parts. Basically, it just gives you more options. And I, for one, like having more options.
Good luck out there, and Happy Exploring! :D
