When you think of 2D platformers, your mind probably goes to Mario.
But, for me, the pinnacle of 2D platforming is embodied by a different mascot: Rayman.
In my mind, Rayman games are the absolute best platformers out there. And if you’re interested in trying this series out, there’s no better place to start than Rayman Origins.
Although this game is 11 years old, looking at it, you’d never know. Each level is gorgeous and meticulously designed.
It’s amazing how this game never stops throwing new ideas at you. There are over 60 levels to complete, and as you work through them the difficulty gradually ramps up.
By the end, the levels seem like they’d be impossible. But the game has been slowly training you, and, when you get there, you're more than ready.
Finishing the last few levels of Origins is one of the most fun and rewarding challenges in any video game.
And if you can believe it, things are even better when playing with a friend; luckily, this game supports up to 4 player couch co-op.
Rayman Origins is hands-down one of the best platformers out there and is very close to perfect. For that, you’d need to look at this game’s successor. But that’s a review for another video.
