A one-minute game review of Shadows of Rose.

Shadows of Rose is the newest installment in the Resident Evil franchise. And, although it’s technically DLC for Village, Shadows of Rose feels much more like a stand-alone mini-sequel than an extension of the base game.

Besides the familiar settings, this DLC feels quite distinct from Village.

The most obvious change is the shift to 3rd person. And, although I enjoy the 1st person perspective of the recent games, I’ll admit that this change feels great.

Shadows of Rose also brings in some fresh mechanics that are new to the series. Specifically, the main character, Rose, has magic abilities that are utilized in both combat and for puzzle solving.

With Village, many fans were disappointed because, except for one specific part, the game wasn’t very scary.

Fortunately, Shadows of Rose works to right some of those wrongs by maintaining an overall higher scare factor throughout. If you liked that one section of Village, you’ll adore this DLC.

The game’s runtime is quite short though, at approximately 3 hours. However, this means that the game has absolutely no filler. It is a finely tuned experience from beginning to end.

9/10 - Amazing
