If you’re looking for a game to put you in the Halloween spirit, but you’re not interested in scary horror games, this game might be right up your alley. Costume Quest is set on Halloween night, and you need to rescue your sibling because they’ve been captured by monsters that have overtaken the neighborhood. You battle against said monsters in turn-based combat. During these combat sections, the player character and companions are transformed into giant versions of whatever costume they’re wearing. Outside of battle, you’ll find and assemble a variety of these costumes by exploring the neighborhood and surrounding areas. The costumes are swappable, and each has a unique move set. You’ll also need to gather candy by trick-or-treating. Candy acts as the currency with which you can buy stamps: equipable upgrades that grant special abilities to help you in battle. Looking beyond the mechanics, Costume Quest nails the atmosphere and is embedded with tons of humor and wit. It does a fantastic job of capturing the essence of Halloween through the eyes and imagination of a child. The game is digital only, but it’s also currently available on Game Pass.
