Old School Runescape Ep.114 - First Thermonuclear Smoke Devil Run
Welcome one and all to a grand adventure of mines on what many Brits here consider to be a classic MMORPG that brings forth fond and fun memories, where I'll be showcasing all sorts of moments in this most exciting commentated series of videos of the world of Gielinor created by Cambridge's own Jagex!
Finally back at the Slayer grind once more and, with that, comes yet another fearsome boss to conquer. having advanced from 91 to 93 over the somewhat long period since I last took on that much-hyped Cerberus hellhound boss back in Taverly Dungeon!
Here, I'm now tasked with taking on the brand new devils, not of the dust variety as you might have expected since they're a decent money-maker and all but they only require 65 slayer to actually hurt and kill but rather a 'smoke' type of devil, more advanced and certainly more deadly to handle, especially if you're the foolish kind to tackle a whole bunch (like you do in the Catacombs of Kourend for the Dust Devils) and thing taking off your prized Slayer Helmet to show off or look at your haircut for others is a remotely good idea!
But, of course, this isn't a 'Hunting' video as it were, no I'm saving that for actually juicy non-boss monsters! Rather we're here to kill the most titular-named 'Themonuclear Smoke Devil', quite the mouthful indeed, whose lair is just south of the Castle Wars arena where I do an entirely different series inside! Funny how all that works eh?
This boss, whilst similar in 'difficulty' to that of the Kraken, is not quite so simple, for you see it has an atrocious damage capacity of just a mere 8 at that! Eight! So why is this Smoke Devil boss still a threat and in a way that's not quite like the Kraken? Well simply put, it has the same attack speed of Zilyana herself, an incredible 1.2 second/2 tick speed, on top of having some seriously impressive accuracy with it's 'magical ranged' attacks, meaning basically magic attacks but sounds a lot like it's using ranged instead. (Essentially it's got a terrible magic level, but it transfers it's massive ranged potency into a magical form.... Somehow)
But yes, asides from the Occult Necklace being as desired (yet surprisingly not expensive) as it is, the Thermonuclear Smoke Devil is also the sole dropper of the neat Smoke Battlestaff, similiar to how Kril T'sutsaroth has that Mist Battlestaff except this one is actually kind of valuable unlike the notorious demonic GWD boss's drop, odd one out that it is! Also the drops aren't so rubbish like the Cerberus's is, however it's no Abyssal Sire either, so again similar to that of the Kraken.
Suppose the strategy here is bring magical-resistant armour and to either tank the hits, not last as long, or go the 'efficient' route by constantly ducking in and out of the Thermonuclear Smoke Devil to make it more like a normal-tick hitting boss, but alas it's not *that* hard of a boss truth be told! Plus I'll admit this is probably the one slayer boss pet I'd kill to get my hands on, so fingers crossed!
In any case, I hope you enjoyed the video and any constructive comments or criticism is appreciated!
