British and Afghan troops killed 14 insurgents and wounded and captured 15 more during an eight-week operation to clear a Taliban hotspot, according to Task Force Helmand. The operation, codenamed Tor Zhemay 3, or Black Winter, saw soldiers from 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment and warriors from the Afghan National Army storm an insurgent stronghold to the south west of Nad-e Ali between the villages of Zangal and Saidabad. In the course of eight weeks the troops engaged in 113 firefights and found 22 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), while their check points came under fire 22 times.
