An anti-submarine warfare expert told British Forces News that the decision to scrap the new Nimrod spy planes will leave Britain's defences dangerously weakened.

Vice Admiral Sir Tim McClement, says the Nimrod was a hugely versatile aircraft and that without its capability, things could be made easier for any enemy hoping to infiltrate British waters.

Earlier this week the Defence Secretary Liam Fox defended ditching the Nimrod MRA4, saying the project had been taking too long and costing too much money.
