Null Bearing Redux had been on my backlog for a while, and I finally found a good time to play it last weekend after finishing Dog Jam.

After seeing ComfyByTheFire remark in her Null Bearing Redux review about a direct reference between it and Temple of Teuthis v3, I figured I ought to follow up by playing that as well.

00:00 - Null Bearing Redux
02:46:58 - Temple of Teuthis

Both of these maps have been significantly renovated from their original releases. The upgrades in detail and lighting are immediately noticeable. Null Bearing Redux also adds Alkaline as a base, giving it a more interesting bestiary to choose from, although some of its fights can be extremely rude, even after having been toned down in updates.

Both maps' new versions also have a set of destructible statues to track down for access to a super secret. I was able to legitimately find all 12 in Null Bearing Redux, but 1 of the 12 in Temple of Teuthis eluded me until I resorted to a neat feature of Ironwail to give me a hint. (If you're watching the Temple of Teuthis playthrough and would like to skip through much of the fruitless search for the final statue, skip to 03:33:40.)

Both of these maps, especially Teuthis, are extremely expansive, as has been the case with previous zbidou72 maps I've played. For the most part I didn't feel overwhelmingly lost at any point in these, though, as the areas seemed distinct enough to remember. There were one or two individual areas that I tended to get a little lost navigating.

zbidou72 managed to come up with an impressive array of large-scale environments over the course of half a year, and with Temple of Teuthis v3 being the latest demonstration of their abilities, I'd certainly be interested to play anything they come up with in the future.
