(Part 1) Pikmin 1 A-Button Challenge Days 1- 3 (Improvement)
The goal of an ABC is to minimise the number of times you press A during the whole run.
Thanks to xhaibara, an OG pikmin 1 god, who pointed out a red only 0x method for PG, aswell as how to reach it, both his discovery entirely. Even when he told me, I couldn't really believe it. Anyway here it is in the TAS. I had to redo the full thing but in total it saved 6 A presses to not have to revisit IS and grow your pikmin elsewhere.
A presses:
Pluck 20 reds
Land in area day 2 and day 3
Withdraw reds day 2 and day 3
Notable actions:
Playing without a memory card allows you to start a file 0x.
Collecting an extra posy on day 1 0x by first budding 2 pikmin.
Reaching the area behind the walls, with pikmin, 0x.
Drowning a red to attack the clamp. If you rub up against the clamp and the pikmin is coming towards you at a slightly acute angle to the clamp, you can force it up there and it will attack. I couldn't get any good results using 2 or more pikmin with this method, so 1 is fine.
Pushing PG to the waypoint displacement location (you can only push it before the pikmin have collected the 20 pellet, for some reason).
This is a TAS, in this case meaning Tool Assisted Superplay. I use an emulator to use savestates and frame advance if needed. TASing pikmin optimally is difficult and time consuming. Sometimes I will choose to simply use savestates instead of optimal play, for the sake of getting the first run through of the challenge done faster. If there comes a point where I can only save an A press with optimal TASing, I will. I don't want this to take months if the result is only slightly cleaner.
