RIDDLES

Inn:

I spy the sun (On the sign to the northwest of the black-and-white photo of the inn), a key back in place (Put the key on the receptionist’s book back on its proper hook. Hides a map piece), a time to check out (The time on the checkout sign, to the right of the duck lamp), a sea captain’s face (On the captain figure to the left of the dark purple books on the shelf);

Two keyholes (The keyholes on the treasure chest full of peppermints and the picture frame), an anchor (On the red baseball cap lying on the green suitcase), a silver bell (On the receptionist’s desk, to the right of the receptionist’s book), a toothbrush (Hidden on the wainscoting near the potted plant), a bed (Carved in the wood, above the baseball cap), and candy that fell (The peppermint to the left of the wooden duck toy).

Lightkeeper’s Quarters:

I spy a house (The central storage hole on the desk), the tail of a whale (On the whale-shaped crack to the right of the oil lamp), a lens that’s cracked (The right lens of the binoculars), a hammer (Hidden as the stool leg closest to the blue marble), a nail (Holding up the portrait of the colonial writer);

Two feather pens (One’s being held by the colonial man in the painting above the desk. The other’s to the right of the postcard), five boats (The three boats on the ocean visible through the window, the boat painting on the box to the right of the telescope, and the sailboat-shaped crack in between the desk and the window), a wick (The wick of the oil lamp in between the alarm clock and the inkwell), a knot in a rope (The end of the rope dangling from the bell. Hides a map piece), and a message in brick (The SOS in the mortar of the chick-shaped crack).

Painting:

I spy a paintbrush (Hidden along the bottom of the sail on the mainmast), a man on a rope (Desperately trying to avoid getting swept away above the stern), OLD THUNDER three times (The Old Thunder in “AS POOR OLD THUNDER LOST ITS LUCK” on the top part of the frame, written on the side of the sinking ship, and in the name of the painting in the center of the bottom frame. Hides a map piece), a tall telescope (Placed along the left border of the frame);

A life preserver (Floating in the waves to the left of the treasure chest), a car (On the sail of the mizzenmast), a sword (In the bolt of lightning closest to the lighthouse), a safety pin (Hidden in the ropes in between the mainmast and the mizzenmast), and six men overboard (The two crew members in the water to the northeast of the survivor in the lifeboat, the three crewmembers that were swept into the swell coming across the center of the ship, and the man getting eaten alive by the shark above the artist’s signature).

Shed:

I spy an earring (In the right ear of the teddy bear pirate), two apples (One’s on the barrel, to the left of the telescope. The other’s on the shelf, to the left of the glue bottle. Hides a map piece), a bee (On the topmost spoke of the wheel), three eggs in a nest (Place the robin’s egg under the barrel’s lock back in the nest above the telescope), a tool used to see (The telescope to the left of the lunchbox);

A lock on a barrel (To the right of the red wagon), a hammer (On the wooden plank being supported by the clothespin), a four (Hidden in the spokes of the wheel), TREASURE HUNT CLUB (written on the blackboard, to the left of the toy sword), a boat (Painted on the lunchbox), and an oar (In between the blackboard and the toy sword).

Beach:

I spy an arrow (Hidden in the shipwreck, to the northwest of the docked sailboat), a forest of pine (On the rocky island off the coast), 4 birds (The seagulls flying above the shipwreck, perching atop the shipwreck, hiding as a shadow to the right of the life preserver, and beginning to take off from the wooden piling), a plane (Flying in the sky to the northwest of the life preserver), a NO SWIMMING sign (Hammered into the sand, directly below the island);

An anchor (Hidden as a crack in the shipwreck, to the right of the crab), a pail (The green pail to the right of the light brown starfish. Hides a map piece), A. NEWMAN & SONS (Written on the life preserver), a name that’s been changed (“Fisherman’s Friend”, now “No Man’s Friend”, on the shipwreck’s stern), and 2 number ones (One’s on the domino to the northwest of the green pail. The other’s on the coin from 1802, to the right of the skull on the beach).
