Jeanne de Arteche (née Joliet)
January 31, 1662 – September 20, 1734
Biography: A seamstress, Jeanne Joliet is credited with outfitting many of the upper class women of Toulouse, France, her birthplace. Upon marrying Luis de Arteche and moving to Madrid, Spain, she and her business achieved celebrity status. Jeanne was lauded for her ability to cut and create a striking silhouette from even the thinnest muslin. Many suspect that her work greatly influenced Coco Chanel.
Genealogical Notes: Married Luis de Arteche on June 25, 1688. Mother of Juan Carlos de Arteche.
