Augustina de Arteche (née Moctezuma)
November 5, 1597 – November 5, 1667
Biography: Known as the life of the party, Augustina Moctezuma was one of the original socialites. Entering the room every evening with new embellishments, she sought to entertain and be entertained. Augustina is said to have never felt a dull moment – even up until her death. With her liver ravaged by decades of alcohol abuse, she died after a bender during a gala on her seventieth birthday.
Genealogical Notes: Daughter of Diego Luis and Francisca Moctezuma (née de la Cueva). Married Gómez de Arteche on December 25, 1621. Mother of Pedro de Arteche. Grandmother of Luis de Arteche.
