This was my introduction to the open-world gameplay of Sid Meier's pirates, and where I first found my love for this series. This NES version was ported by Rare, and published by Ultra/Konami. If you have never played a Sid Meier's Pirates! game, I wholeheartedly recommend it. This is a classic series that has spanned retro PC to Xbox and Wii, and you can still find the 2005 version of the game on Steam, or the Nightdive Studio remaster of Pirated Gold on Steam.

The game isn't overly exciting to watch in a gameplay sample, but it is absurdly addictive to play. I love the pirates series, and my love of the series started with this version here which was a hand-me-down christmas present sent to our family from our Aunt one year. She would send us a bunch of games that I assume my cousins didn't like. Pirates, Super Pitfall, Target Renegade, 1942, and more mediocre to good games.
