PlayStation 1 emulation - RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 4b 8GB | Rea vlog
expand for full description ... Welcome to our channel, Rea vlog. Filipina Foreigner Husband Philippines & Ireland.
My husband would like to share some retro games footage !!
Conor here ... This week we will have a look at some games on the SONY PlayStation 1 console. Emulation was performed via the lr-pcsx-rearmed emulator on RetroPie, running on a Raspberry Pi 4b (8GB), recorded onto OBS at 25 frames a second, with "sharp bilinear without scanlines" video shader applied. For controls, I used a generic Xbox 360 style USB controller.
Although alot of my friends bought PS1s, I never got round to buying one myself. I did rent a console & a couple of games for a long weekend once or twice, was about £20 I think ? The games were cool enough, but I did not think the jump in graphics were quite worth the cost. Nowadays I appreciate the massive library of impressive titles on the PS1, especially fighting games. Maybe I should have at least got a chipped console back in the day !!
Please note that if some of the videos here seem to slowdown, it is because of the 25 frames a second recording rather than the hardware struggling. When you play directly off the Pi 4 to a television all the games play FLAWLESSLY ....
# Street Fighter EX2 - I remember watching a short clip of this on Games Master (1997 ?) and never seeing it again. I was hoping to play it in the arcade but no matter where I searched worldwide I never found it ! Some interesting new characters & the graphics arent bad, but I think the gameplay is a bit too slow for a Street Fighter title.
# Tekken 3 - I played this shortly after its release in Shooters pool hall in Monaghan Town (1997). The graphics were impressive & the sound track was quite good too. The port to PS1 is the stand out game for the system for me.
# Capcom vs SNK 2 - crossover that includes characters from some of the most iconic fighting series, this was another game I could not find anywhere in the arcades. Great addition of the 'team of fighters' concept from SNK, rather than the typical 1 vs 1.
# Guilty Gear - the first installment in the Guilty Gear series, the over the top graphics & detailed art work are already on display here.
# WipeOut - such an awesome racing game, the graphics were way ahead of their time & the weapons available for pick up add a new dimension to each race.
# Mortal Kombat Trilogy - I remember seeing the Mortal Kombat 3 arcade machine in Salt Hill, Galway the summer it was released (1995). There was some dude in his 30s hogging the machine, beating everyone as Kano & showing off by finishing with the heart rip fatality.
# Ridge Racer - such a fun driving game, I love the bright colors & over the top arcade style graphics. The old skool rave sound track is the cherry on top !
# Soul Blade - the first installment in the Soul Calibur series, you can already hear the stunning sound track taking shape & along with the smooth graphics.
# X Men: Mutant Academy 2 - not a bad fighting game, although I thought the special moves could be improved on.
# Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition - I like this game alot, though I think they should have had more characters to select from. Also the 'team of fighters' concept has been dropped, which is the main attraction of SNK fighting games.
