PlayStation Portable emulation on RetroPie - Raspberry Pi 4b 8GB | Rea vlog

expand for full description ... Welcome to our channel, Rea vlog. Filipina Foreigner Husband Philippines & Ireland. My husband would like to share some retro games footage !!
Conor here ... This week we will have a look at some of my favorite games on the PlayStation Portable. Emulation was performed via the lr-ppsspp emulator on RetroPie, running on a Raspberry Pi 4b (8GB), recorded onto OBS at 25 frames a second, with the "sharp bilinear without scanlines" video shader applied. For controls I used a generic Xbox 360 style USB controller.
I did not get into the PSP until recently, but boy I am sure glad I did ! The graphics are on par with the PS2 & it has a huge library of games, with lots of the quirky Manga-style fighting games I am a massive fan of. Some of the visuals look a bit jagged, but this is because the PSP was designed for a small screen & I have emulated it up to many times the normal size.
Please note that if some of vidoes here seem to slowdown, it is because of the 25 frames a second recording rather than the hardware struggling. When you play directly off the Pi 4 to a television all the games play FLAWLESSLY ....
# Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection - the iconic fighter, I first played this in an arcade in London (2007). I was impressed not only by the in-game graphics but also the intro video & cut scenes.
# BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger - I love the effort that went into this game, the Gothic / Manga style artwork & over the top gameplay makes it a joy to play. A breath of fresh air in a crowded fighting game market !
# NBA Street Showdown - basketball in da hood ! Great soundtrack but the gameplay is a bit repetitive, not a bad effort from EA Sports.
# Fate Unlimited Codes - another Gothic / Manga style fighter, based on a Japanese fantasy anime series. For some reason the CPU controlled player didnt put up much of a fight ...
# Guilty Gear XX - awesome fighting game, I first played this in Singapore Airport (2011) on a NAOMI arcade machine. The Manga style graphics & thumping soundtrack were stuck in my head for days afterwards !
# Initial D: Street Stage - I played the arcade version of this in Kota Kinabalu (2017) where I was drawn in by the unusual visuals & plush SEGA racing cabinet. Based on a Japanese illegal street racing Manga comic series, it combines sharp graphics with a soap opera storyline.
# SEGA Rally Revo - not a bad version of the classic SEGA racing game, although I think the Dreamcast port remains the gold standard.
# Ikki Tousen: Xross Impact - beat 'em up based on a Manga comic series, no idea whats going on as its all in Japanese, although I doubt I would understand whats going on even if it was in English LOL
# OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast - a re-imagining of the SEGA arcade classic OutRun, same frantic racing action but with modern graphics.
# Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny - beautiful graphics & an uplifting soundtrack are the hallmarks of all Soul Calibur games, and this one is no exception!
# Ridge Racer - very impressive graphics, the draw distance & general lack of blocky images makes this the stand out racing game on the PSP.
