I have arrived at Oreburgh City, and it is time to check out Oreburgh Mine and see if I can find Roark, the Gym Leader who specializes in Rock-type Pokémon. The mine is filled with Rock-type Pokémon, and it is a good place to train up in preparation for the Gym Leader, and Roark is a lot tougher than your normal Trainer.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

I explore Oreburgh City, and there are some people that give you useful items, like a Heal Ball if you show a Zubat to a PokéManiac inside a building, and there is the first in-game trade in the game, she will trade you an Abra for a Machop, you can find Machop on Route 207, and this is a very easy way to get Abra if you want to use one on your team.
I could go over the encounters on Route 207, the new encounter is Machop, there is your early Fighting-type, it has a good Attack stat, and it gets Revenge at Level 8, so this is a great Pokémon for the upcoming Gym Leader. It does require a trade to be fully evolved, but once it is fully evolved, it has a very high Attack stat and very solid stats, so this is a good option to use if you want to use a Fighting-type Pokémon for your team.
Next is Oreburgh Mine, and you can get a hidden Stardust from the pile of coal near the entrance. There is one new encounter, and that is Onix, it is a bit rarer, but I wouldn't recommend using it. Onix does have a high Defense stat, but its Attack stat is very low, which surprises me for a Pokémon this large and made of rocks, you are better off using Geodude. While Onix does require a trade while holding the Metal Coat to evolve, it's not worth it, you can find wild Steelix later in the game if you want to use one.
When you find Roark in the mine, he will show you how to use Rock Smash, and he will be waiting for you at the Gym. I decided to do the Gym Battle in this video so that it isn't too short.
Oreburgh Gym uses Rock-type Pokémon, this is great for players that picked Turtwig or Piplup, if you chose Chimchar, you can evolve it into Monferno at Level 14, where it becomes part Fighting-type, there are some good options for this Gym, Budew, Psyduck, and Machop are good options to use. You can take the longer route to avoid the Trainers, but I would recommend battling them for some experience.
Then it is time to fight Roark, the Gym Leader of Oreburgh City, here is his team and moves.
Geodude: Stealth Rock, Defense Curl, Rollout
Onix: Stealth Rock, Rock Throw, Bind
Cranidos: Headbutt, Bulldoze, Leer

Two of Roark's Pokémon know Stealth Rock, but his Onix is more than likely to use it as it has Sturdy, Geodude isn't too difficult, you can take it out in one hit with Water Gun from Piplup, Razor Leaf from Turtwig or Absorb from Budew. Onix does have lower Attack than Geodude, but it does have Bind to watch out for. His signature Pokémon is Cranidos, and one thing I like is that Roark uses Stickers for his signature Pokémon, so Cranidos will have rock-based Stickers for it. Cranidos is very tough, it has a high Attack stat, and it has Bulldoze for type coverage against any Rock-type Pokémon you try to wall it with, or if you are using Monferno, watch out for Bulldoze, and its Headbutt can really hurt, and it has Leer to lower your Defense. Cranidos isn't that defensive, so Machop's Revenge can take it out very easily if you trained up Machop for this battle. One thing to note for this playthrough, I will be rotating around team members each part, and I must not have any Pokémon that go over the upcoming Gym Leader's highest level Pokémon, so this will be an interesting challenge that I will be implementing for this playthrough. Serebii.net also lists the Natures for every Pokémon used by Trainers, so Geodude has an Impish Nature, Onix has an Adamant Nature, and Cranidos has a Jolly Nature, I don't remember if the Gym Leader's Pokémon are EV trained, because I remember in Sun & Moon, every notable Trainer you fought during the game had Pokémon that were EV trained.
After the battle, Roark gives you the Coal Badge, allowing you to use Rock Smash out of battle, and he gives you TM76, which contains Stealth Rock, I don't recommend using it in the main game, it's a move that you would use in competitive battling, Stealth Rock in case anyone is not familiar with the move is a move where you set up rocks on the opposing side of the field, and the Pokémon that switches in will take damage based on their weakness to Rock, and that move is very popular in competitive battling. Roark also gives you some Stickers that he used for his Cranidos, you can use them to decorate your Poké Balls, so that you get special effects when your Pokémon come out, Stickers used to be called Seals in the original games.
