I needed to use a X-Speed to outspeed that Gengar. Otherwise, it would simply 2HKO Croconaw because it can't be OHKO by Bite. If the first Haunter used Curse, I resetted the game. Morty's other Pokémon are very easy and I left Ecruteak City. I dodged every trainer in the Route 38 and 39. I needed to accept Balboa's phone number to let him leave.
I dodged most of the trainers in the Olivine Lighthouse and Croconaw evolved into Feraligatr. I talked to Jasmine and started surfing on Routes 40 and 41. I managed to dodge every trainer here and entered Chainwood gym. You can solve the puzzle and fight only one trainer by leaving and entering the gym. I saved before facing Chuck.
