I fought the Ace Trainers alone, because they are harder together. I used Curse a few times to 2HKO that Gligar and Drifblim if it used Stockpile. Buizel is OHKO'd. The female Ace Trainer is easier with only her Lickitung as the hardest since it can use Defense Curl. Roselia can also be tricky but it is quickly 2HKO'd. Ralts shouldn't even be mentioned.
I entered Veilstone City and picked up a Rare Candy. I bought some items, including X-Attacks, X-Speeds, Super Repels, Full Heals and Hyper Potions. I entered the gym after a conversation with Wake and Rowans assistent. I fought one trainer in the gym and used my two Rare Candies. Grotle evolved into Torterra and it finally learned Earthquake.

Saved at 1:20 with a L32 Torterra.
