Pokemon Omega Ruby - 0 Exp Part 8: Brendan @ Route 119
Another battle against the game's rival (I think they really did try to make him your rival in the remakes, while the whole enterprise kinda fell apart in vanilla RSE if you ask me). Not much challenge can be expected of him as per usual, yet this is the same opportunity to show off my latest Pokemon it usually is.

I picked Mudkip as my starter, if you haven't forgotten, so that determines who is used here. Brendan continues using his grass/fire/water party of three, not having updated it with new catches just yet.
Slugma hasn't been evolved yet, and it's hard not to KO it with one of the water-types that have become available together with Surf and, like, Good Rod. The best water-type I had at this point however was my lv. 25 Adamant Azumarill. It comes with Play Rough and Aqua Tail, essentially its best moves, already learnt so you can imagine how much it rocks when you get one with Huge Power (which is the only kind of Azumarill that's worth getting). After Fortree is made accessible, there's an Azumarill 5 levels higher that's worthy of another capture effort, just because how well its firepower and movepool function for a long while in this challenge.
...anyways, it's raining so you can imagine how overkill Aqua Tail really is.
Azumarill will provoke the rival to send in his Grovyle next, which actually knows Leaf Blade. Together with Azumarill, on the same Surf routes, a lv. 25 Masquerain can be caught. This would normally be among the last Pokemon to want to catch, but this time around it's been balanced nicely by getting Bug Buzz (90 BP) and even Quiver Dance through move relearner, actually warranting some use (it's about as usable as Beautifly basically, which also got similar buffs). Ever since Vivillon became the exemplary competent earlygame bug, they wanted to do the same to some of the scrubs we'd previously scoffed at.
Still, Masquerain is too low-levelled to OHKO Grovyle without a Quiver Dance boost to speed, not even outspeeding him afterwards either.
We have to face Wailmer now, and I counter him with the glorious HM Slave Tropius we captured just about on this route. Tropius can also get pretty menacing with the help of the move relearner by learning Leaf Storm, with its whopping 130 BP, but since there's a higher-levelled Tropius available soon I didn't bother to backtrack such a long way for what is an unnecessary move in the grand scheme of things.
Instead, I teach it Nature Power via TM, turning into the SE Energy Ball in grassy terrain and OHKOing even without the massive power of Leaf Storm (I do think I might've required an Expert Belt or a Miracle Seed to do it but that's not hard to accommodate).
There are some Glooms around of a similar level to Tropius, evolvable with Sun Stones and also accessing Leaf Storm as Bellossom, but I don't bother to catch one until a good deal later.
When I look back at this portion of the challenge, I realise I didn't have much time to use these Pokemon so it almost feels as if I'd gone through the effort to catch them (with good natures and IVs no less) to record this video. I guess that's the nature of this challenge to swap Pokemon a lot. At least Pikachu and Skitty see a lot of playtime in major battles!
