The choice between Black Mage and Ranger is the easiest I've had to make so far. Ranger is a physical job with few, if any, skills to offer as passives to other classes, while Black Mage is my hope for keeping the Spellcraft high by the time shops start offering scrolls above Red Magic lv. 4. The passives offered by BM aren't terribly useful but I can definitely imagine literally requiring Pierce M Defence against later bosses. 3 slots is so harsh though.

Ominas, in the longest sidequest ever (I couldn't make myself read all the text, which seems like a consistent tendency for me playing this game) fights back alongside his promising dragon Bahamut. The dragon is the healthiest foe of the two, but with a weakness to water/ice making him the fastest boss to kill. He is also more dangerous, as Ominas has a chance of kinda wasting his turn (i.e. not being very dangerous to the party) by healing Bahamut with fire magic. Bahamut, on the other hand, wastes no time and likes hitting the whole party. Flame Robes help me withstand all the eruption taking place; sadly, the fire resistance they grant doesn't stack with, say, Astrologian's fire protection.

I start using Merchant's Commerce over Astrologian's Mystic Boon as my go-to buff in this battle. Technically, both can be used, but I prefer the flexibility of having both Yew and Tiz available for their shared utility of healing, reviving when necessary, using Ethers on girls and now also using Pay to Play for 400% critical rate, which so far has not failed in giving me a Hammer crit 100% of the time (perhaps lucky, perhaps base crit rate is 25% or higher).

Red Mage's Revival was inconceivably effective here, getting girls another chance to use Spellcraft almost immediately after unleashing Hammertime on the enemies. Stand Ground + Revival is too good in battles like this.
