Time's come for our 4th gym battle against leader Flannery!

I remember when I was a teenager and Ruby/Sapphire came out Flannery was instantly and unanimously proclaimed to be the sexiest female in the history of everything. Revisiting Hoenn in the sixth generation, I don't quite see it, to say the least of the pixelated Flannery in vanilla RSE, so what can I say, we were all just stupid children back in the day. Anyway...
The game provides us with just the right number of rock/ground-types needed to face Flannery effectively, though rock-types still falter when it comes to taking on Flannery's prized Pokemon in Torkoal.
Slugma is the lead, a potentially decent Pokemon that never quite got its chance to shine in a Pokemon game. Evolving later than any given 2nd tier starter, even in games where it "enjoys" superior availability (superior only for the purposes of the player registering it in their Pokedex), Slugma just never saw a time where the player could say "man, I should consider using Slugma on one of my runs".
When on the other side of the battlefield in a 0 exp challenge, you'd think Slugma could actually pose a threat. It's got STAB Overheat and a level advantage! However, with 20 speed and 40/40 defences it's outsped by Numel and will go down in a single Bulldoze.
Now it's Flannery sending out her own Numel, and this time we're too underlevelled to pull off a mirror as successfully as we did against Brawly's Makuhita. Geodude is switched in; though normally OHKO'd by Earth Power and outsped, Sturdy and Flannery's recovery allow it to attack Numel three turns in a row, triggering a potion use and slowing Numel down for Geodude to finish off on the last turn. The potion use means Torkoal is much easier to deal with next.
Now it's time to face Torkoal, the biggest challenge here. You saw how poorly Solrock did up against Maxie's Camerupt in the last video, and we have an even sturdier and more powerful fire-type attack machine here. Torkoal's physical defence is twice as sizeable as its special defence, so if there was some good rock-type move to use, we'd be all over that. Alternatively, if for some odd reason Solrock's access to Wonder Room as a relearner move hadn't been removed in transition between XY and ORAS, I would've swapped Torkoal's def and sp. def with Wonder Room and then just unleashed rock and ground type moves from all directions and orifices. Sadly, the developers evidently "nerfed" Solrock by removing the move so that its users wouldn't cheese Torkoal; not that Solrock needed any nerfs, and they did things like give Aron Protect as a level-up move even though Protect completely destroys Norman. So idk how to explain the logic behind this...
So the question how to deal with Torkoal remains. Its special defence is its weakest stat and it's slow, bingo - Electro Ball! Even paralysing it with Thunder Wave barely changes the power of the move (I think it goes from 120 to 150 BP? that's what I observed when practising my strategy, umm dear Google Chrome I'm fairly sure the correct spelling is "practising" with an S), that's how slow it is.
Electro Ball 3HKOs Torkoal, so the only problem is having Pikabelle stay alive for the duration of the enterprise. Leading with Nuzleaf of all mons, I bait Torkoal into self-debuffing with Overheat once (White Smoke won't help with avoiding that). Now Pikachu isn't OHKO'd by Overheat and Torkoal needs Sunny Day to accomplish that. Because Torkoal is affected by Nuzleaf's premortal Taunt, it's not acting quite as intelligently as it may have wanted to - for example, when Pikachu switches out with Volt Switch after landing one Electro Ball, Overheat is wasted on Geodude and cannot be used again next turn. However, we no longer even care what is used next turn because 2 Electro Balls + 1 Volt Switch is sufficient damage to take down this jerk.
I think I said I wouldn't show Pikachu used in any videos after this and I guess I was wrong about that, forgetting this video. Having also played this challenge some more recently, I found out this is not the last time Pikachu turns out to be useful again...
