Also, call me crazy, but I think Pokémon Legends: Z-A is going to take place in the present. The teaser trailer shows Lumiose City with buildings with reflective fronts, indicating those glass-lined urban buildings, as well as people in contemporary clothing (baseball caps, windbreaker jackets). The logo seen a few times throughout the trailer also resembles a stylized quasar, with text below using letting looking like “QUASAR.” This word was coined in the 1950s, so I don’t think it would’ve taken place a hundred years ago or more the way Pokémon Legends: Arceus is.

(If you’re wondering, the word “galaxy” has been in use since at least the 1300s. Pokémon Legends: Arceus has a setting roughly equivalent to the late stages of the Meiji Restoration, which would’ve been in the 1870s to 1890s. Daguerreotypes were already in use in Hisui, people from other lands have been brought in as consultants like Professor Laventon, and the style of dress is of that transitional period where it’s based on traditional Japanese with western influences.)

Also, considering we’ve had a recurring but sporadic space theme with villainous groups (Team Rocket, Team Galactic, Macro Cosmos, Team Star, possibly Phobos Battalion if it’s named after the Martian moon instead of simply Latin for “fear”), I have to wonder if this is actually the emblem of a “Team Quasar” that must be stopped.

I’d like to go further and say that there will be a trilogy of Pokémon Legends games. Arceus takes place in the past, Z-A takes place in the present, and some later game takes place in the future.

Well, once the release date comes by and the game is finally out, we’ll see for ourselves. I will probably be wrong, as I’m weird and I make wild, crazy guesses, but that’s how my impression of the teaser trailer is like.

Type: Double Battle
Opponent: Delbert
Battle Court: Blueberry Academy
Music: Kieran 3
My Pokémon: Feraligatr, Farigiraf, Mighyena, Zebstrika
Opponent's Pokémon: Kommo-o, Clefable, Greninja, Ogerpon (Wellspring)

Here’s a Pokémon combination I had never seen before to open with: Kommo-o and Clefable. I know about Clefable’s Follow Me, among other disruptive moves, and how, eight generations later, Clefable can still hold on’s own defensively while using Magic Guard to prevent losing HP due to Sandstorm, Leech Seed, Poison, Burn, and all sorts of other stuff. (Generally, I would expect to see Clefairy with an Eviolite and Friend Guard, however.) This is to allow Kommo-o to use Clangorous Soul, a move that increases all of Kommo-o’s stats except HP while losing 1/3 of its full HP, while minimizing the risk of getting hit. Of course, moves that hit multiple Pokémon are not affected, and it looks like they chose to play it safe by Terastallizing Kommo-o immediately, seeing Farigiraf on my side at the start.

I thought they took too big of a risk, though, by using this same strategy two turns in a row. That puts Kommo-o’s HP at less than a third left (since I had already targeted Kommo-o during then), and even with +2 Defense and Sp. Defense, a good hit will knock him down. That’s why I found it baffling that they then threw it away by switching to Greninja. Perhaps that Greninja was there to kill time until conditions were right for Ogerpon to show up though. Ogerpon is always major trouble due to her high Speed, insane Attack boosted further by 20% if she’s wearing any mask other than Teal, and, if she Terastallizes (which she won’t here), further stat boosts from Embody Aspect. Nevertheless, Ogerpon tends to use Spiky Shield a lot, and it’s hard to tell when that will happen (though it’s easier to tell when she won’t).
