This week, I will be trading Gible through Surprise Trade, and I usually breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats. At least I am trading a Pokémon that is very good in online battles when fully evolved, but the Pokémon is decided through a list that I randomize.
I went with Jolly for the Nature, as Gible's best stats are Speed and Attack, Jolly does make it faster than most Pokémon, and some of them have the Hidden Ability of Rough Skin, which I find is the better Ability to have on Gible, it can work with Adamant for the extra power, but Jolly is more preferred, as base 102 Speed is fast, but not as fast as most of the top threats in the competitive scene.
For Egg Moves, Gible can learn Thrash, Double-Edge, Metal Claw, and Twister, it can get Thrash from Gyarados and the Larvitar line, Double-Edge from the Bagon and Bergmite lines, Twister from Gyarados, Flapple, and the Dratini line, and Metal Claw can be learned through TM, but it is a level up move from Pawniard, Tinkatink, and Lucario. Double-Edge and Thrash are very powerful moves for early in the game, making them better to have than Tackle, and while Sand Tomb is a decent early Ground-type move, the Egg Moves do better than those moves.
For level up moves, it can learn Sand Attack, Dragon Breath, Bulldoze, Bite, Slash, Dragon Claw, Dig, Sandstorm, Take Down, and Dragon Rush. It evolves into Gabite at Level 24, and for some reason they removed Dual Chop from this game, because Gabite would learn that move upon evolution in previous generations. Its final evolution Garchomp is at Level 48, and it learns Crunch upon evolution.
Next are TMs, and I will list what Garchomp can learn, it can get Fire Fang, Thunder Fang, Scary Face, Aerial Ace, Rock Tomb, Dragon Tail, False Swipe, Brick Break, Shadow Claw, Body Slam, Poison Jab, Stomping Tantrum, Rock Slide, Swords Dance, Spikes, Iron Head, Liquidation, Stealth Rock, Dragon Pulse, Surf, Flamethrower, Earth Power, Fire Blast, Earthquake, Stone Edge, Giga Impact, Hyper Beam, Outrage, Draco Meteor, and Tera Blast.
In online battles, Garchomp is one of the top Pokémon used, it has good Speed and a high Attack stat to put those to use. Garchomp is ranked 19th in the current format, with Dragonite and Hisuian Goodra being the few Dragon-type Pokémon that place higher than Garchomp, Dragonite placing 1st, but at least it ranks higher than Dragapult, Baxcalibur, and many others, and as for Ground-type Pokémon, Ursaluna, Ting-Lu, and Landorus in its Therian Forme place higher. Garchomp's most notable set is a Physical sweeper with Outrage and Earthquake, with Iron Head for a coverage option, Swords Dance to boost its Attack, it can use Stealth Rock or Spikes to set up entry hazards. Steel is the best Tera Type for Garchomp as that makes it not only resist Ice and Fairy-type moves, but it powers up Iron Head to deal more damage, Fairy is listed as a popular Tera Type, this could be to give it an immunity to Dragon-type moves and take on Dragon, Dark, and Fighting-type Pokémon with Tera Blast, Fire, Poison, and Water are other good Tera Type options for it to take on Pokémon of different types.
Garchomp is placed lower in Double Battles, it is ranked 59th, with Dragonite, Dragapult, and Baxcalibur placing higher for Dragon-types, while Landorus and Ursaluna for Ground-types. Garchomp can use Earthquake when paired with a Flying-type like Tornadus or Talonflame, and Dragon Claw for a single target Dragon-type move, as Outrage is not an easy move to control as it hits a random opponent in Double Battles, Rock Slide to hit both targets, Iron Head and Poison Jab for type coverage, and Stomping Tantrum for a single target Ground-type move. Steel is the most popular Tera Type for Garchomp in Double Battles, while Ground is there to increase the power of Earthquake or Stomping Tantrum. The best held item for Garchomp is the Clear Amulet, which protects it from being affected by Intimidate.
While Garchomp is a powerful force when going through the game, the Gible stage can be very rough, it takes until Level 18 to get Bulldoze, and Level 42 as Gabite to get Dragon Claw, it does get Earthquake through TM, and with both Dragon Claw and Earthquake, it can do well in battle, and it can have Iron Head or Poison Jab for type coverage against Fairy-type moves, and it will be set. It is a powerful Ground-type option in Tera Raid Battles as it can use Swords Dance to boost its Attack and use Earthquake to deal some damage to the opponent, it is best used in any Fire, Poison, Electric, Steel, or Rock Tera Raid Battles as long as the Pokémon does not have Ice as the base type or can know an Ice-type move.
