The next Pokémon that I trade for this week is Phanpy, and I did randomize a list to decide the next Pokémon. As usual, I breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and I went with Adamant for the Nature, as Phanpy has higher Attack, it can use Impish to work with its Defense stat when it evolves. I didn't breed the Hidden Ability of Sand Veil onto them, and Pickup turns into Sturdy when it evolves into Donphan.
Phanpy learns a wide variety of Egg Moves, the ones I went with were High Horsepower, Play Rough, Head Smash, and Ice Shard, its other Egg Moves include Body Slam, Counter, Focus Energy, Fissure, Heavy Slam, Snore, Ancient Power, and Endeavor, I won't list all of the Pokémon that can learn those moves, but I will list examples for the moves I went with, it learns High Horsepower from Mudsdale, Copperajah, and Ursaring, and Head Smash is a move not many Pokémon can learn, Sudowoodo and Drednaw are examples of Pokémon that can learn the move, Ice Shard is learned by a variety of Ice-type Pokémon, and Play Rough is already a TM for many Fairy-type Pokémon.
Phanpy is one of few Pokémon that does not learn certain moves when it evolves, and to go over its level up moves, it can get Tackle, Growl, Defense Curl, Flail, Rollout, Bulldoze, Endure, Slam, Take Down, Charm, Last Resort, and Double-Edge. When it evolves into Donphan, it can learn Fury Attack, Horn Attack, Fire Fang, Thunder Fang, Rapid Spin, Assurance, Knock Off, Stomping Tantrum, Scary Face, Earthquake, and Giga Impact, Donphan cannot learn Tackle, Flail, Endure, Take Down, Charm, Last Resort, and Double-Edge, but it can get Take Down, Charm, and Endure as TM moves.
Next are TMs, and I will be going over what Donphan can learn, it can get Ice Fang, Thief, Trailblaze, Rock Tomb, Smart Strike, Seed Bomb, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Body Press, Iron Head, Gunk Shot, Stealth Rock, Ice Spinner, Stone Edge, Hyper Beam, and Tera Blast.
When Paradox Pokémon were first revealed, or well, teased in a trailer, because Paradox Pokémon were not revealed pre-release, I expected them to be like form changes, where Donphan would transform into those ancient and future forms, but it turns out they are considered separate species that came from different times. With Great Tusk being one of the most used Pokémon in online battles, or even in competitive battling, it has better stats than Donphan with the exception of Special Defense, and it has a respectable Speed stat compared to Donphan's below average base 50 Speed. As with its futuristic counterpart Iron Treads, it has the Ground/Steel-type and has excellent Speed, but has less Attack than Donphan.
Going over Donphan itself, while overshadowed by its Paradox variants, it is still a solid Pokémon, Earthquake is its best move in battle, and it learns a variety of coverage options, like Seed Bomb, Rock Slide, Knock Off, Play Rough, Ice Spinner, and many other moves, it can set up Stealth Rock, remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin, and it can use Ice Shard for priority. For Tera Type, Ice to give its Ice Shard extra power, while not the best type defensively, it is more for the extra power to the only priority move it can learn.
In Double Battles, Donphan is once again overshadowed by its Paradox variants, and with Great Tusk ranked 7th and Iron Treads ranked 56th, it is not easy using Donphan in Double Battles. It is one of few Ground-type Pokémon to learn High Horsepower, but it is overshadowed by Mudsdale as a user of High Horsepower. It does get Rock Slide, and it can stick with Ground for its Tera Type to give moves like Earthquake and High Horsepower some extra power.
Donphan is a solid option for Tera Raids, being a Ground-type with good Attack and Defense for stats, it doesn't get too many moves that boost its stats, it does get Helping Hand to give its teammates the extra boost. It is a solid Pokémon when going through the game, and with the Egg Moves, High Horsepower, Play Rough, and Ice Shard help with the early game with the power of those moves. Phanpy usually does not get Bulldoze till Level 15, and once evolved into Donphan, it can relearn Fire Fang and Thunder Fang, and with good TM compatability with moves like Trailblaze and many other good Physical moves, it is one of many Ground-type Pokémon that is available in the game.
