In a few hours after this video goes live, the epilogue for The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero will go live. Known as “Mochi Mayhem,” Arven, Nemona, and Penny come over to Kitakami, where the thre of them, plus the player character, will have to deal with one last threat: Pecharunt, the leader, maybe commander, of the Loyal Three, to complete the twisted version of the Momotaro legend that the Loyal Three and Ogerpon are based on.

Just as Momotaro befriended the monkey, the pheasant, and the dog by sharing millet dumplings with them, Pecharunt puts people and Pokémon under its control if they ingest its poison mochi.

For Thursday’s video, I plan to put up the first hour of the Epilogue, as I had done for Teal Mask and Indigo Disk. I’ll have two videos after that (the “Blaziken the Unrivaled” event on Sunday, followed by Splatoon 3’s FrostyFest on Monday), followed up immediately on the following work/school week with battle videos from the Blueberry Prologue online battling event, which will cover Tuesday through Saturday the following week.

I wonder if there will be any further DLC past this. Like, for instance, one that allows Furfrou, the Patrat line, and the elemental monkeys in…

Type: Double Battle
Opponent: 60659
Battle Court: Naranja Academy/Uva Academy
Music: Kieran 3
My Pokémon: Debra (Zebstrika), Lena (Mightyena), Leonardo (Pyroar), Gustave (Feraligatr)
Opponent's Pokémon: ドドゲザン (Kingambit), ランドロス (Landorus) (Incarnate), オーガポン (Ogerpon) (Wellspring), ガオガエン (Incineroar)

A major mistake I made here was forgetting that Kingambit will generally have Defiant, which is generally an Intimidate counter because it’ll cause the user (of Defiant) to gain Attack rather than lose it. Defiant and Competitive, the Special Attack counterpart, were tricks I used last generation to much effect to deal with Intimidate users like Incineroar and Landorus, both of whom are now back this generation, so I feel dumb for having forgotten this. And once Kingambit’s Attack started going up, there wasn’t much I could do to stop it, especially with him having Sucker Punch in tow. (Or is that “kowtow”?)

Battles like these are another reason I have testing sessions for new teams. I need to see what these teams struggle to deal with so I can avoid these situations in the future. Of course, with the pick-3 and pick-4 mechanics in the main games, where you don’t use a full team, the answer can be as simple as to not pick those Pokémon.

No, I’m not going to replace the background music for these battles with Taylor Swift’s music, if you know what the title of this video refers to. What, do you think I want a copyright strike?

Type: Double Battle
Opponent: 60659
Battle Court: Mesagoza (Central Plaza)
Music: Kieran 3
My Pokémon: Gigi (Farigiraf), Leonardo (Pyroar), Gustave (Feraligatr), Hipparchus (Hippowdon)
Opponent's Pokémon: ガオガエン (Incineroar),ドドゲザン (Kingambit), オーガポン (Ogerpon) (Wellspring), ランドロス (Landorus) (Incarnate)

This battle was a lesson learned and a lesson applied to this battle, where I came across 60659 again, who also brought Kingambit out at the beginning. For this battle, there is no Mightyena with Intimidate to feed Kingambit’s Defiant, though unfortunately, poor Pyroar wound up being a sacrifice again. Somehow, I also forgot that Grass resists Ground (or rather, I forgot that my opponent had already Terastallized Kingambit at the start, as I was expecting a Terastallization on Ogerpon to get Embody Aspect going, which takes away Ogerpon’s Grass type if she’s holding any mask other than Teal).

Interestingly, though two of my Pokémon are different (and so I selected all six of them between the two matches in this video), my opponent chose the same four Pokémon, only in a different order. I suppose there is something about this team I have that makes them leery of selecting Latias or Flutter Mane. For the record, my Safari Team IS designed to deal with either of them, though I don’t know about both at the same time.

After this will be the first hour of “Mochi Mayhem,” scheduled for Thursday, January 11th, 2024 at noon Pacific Daylight Time. I’ve finished the main story and saw the credits roll, though I’m not even close to finishing with the special coaches sidequest, and I’ve barely started the Snacksworth sidequest. I’m in no hurry though.
