The nicknames aren’t visible in the actual battles in Blueberry Prologue, but you can see them during Team Preview for my own team. So while my opponents will never see what their nicknames are (unless they find one of these videos by happenstance), I can, and so can you. If you’re unsure of what their nicknames come from, or if you want confirmation if your hunch is correct, they are as follows:

CHARIZARD - Charlie - from “char”

SCEPTILE - Bracken - from the bracken fern; this is a very rare but real given name

BLAZIKEN - Roy - from Roy Rooster, a character in the cartoon series U.S. Acres. I had forgotten that “Roy” is also a major character in Pokémon Horizons; I will rename Blaziken later

EMPOLEON - Caesar - a ruler of a country, as this Pokémon is based on the emperor penguin

SERPERIOR - Aurelian - the real name of the wrestler Jake the Snake, Aurelian Brown Jr.

INTELEON - Pascal - from Rapunzel’s chameleon pet in the animated film Tangled

This Empoleon, by the way, is the same one I brought to the Iron Bundle the Unrivaled raids. I gave him a different nickname by sending him back to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, renaming him, and bringing him back here. If you’ve played (or watched a lot of) Pokémon Legends: Arceus, you might remember an Alpha Empoleon on the northern shores of Cobalt Coastlands. This is indeed that Alpha…one of them, at least. I have multiple ones, as I catch as many Alpha Pokémon as I encounter because of Professor Laventon providing a bonus for each one I catch.

Type: Double Battle
Opponent: Timo
Battle Court: Blueberry Academy
Music: Ruinous Legend
My Pokémon: Empoleon, Charizard, Blaziken, Sceptile
Opponent's Pokémon: Elfun (Whimsicott), Metagross, Fuegro (Incineroar), Gortrom (Rillaboom)

This was the hardest opponent to predict the entire Blueberry Prologue for me, and this is evident through the entire video. This is definitely intentional too, because if you look at that lineup in Team Preview, you’ll see no fewer than four Pokémon peolpe commonly open with: Whimsicott (for Tailwind, Encore, and Taunt, all boosted by Prankster), Incineroar (for an opening Intimidate with Snarl and Parting Shot to lower the targets’ offense stats), Farigiraf (for an opening Trick Room to counter Tailwind users), and Ninetales (to set up Aurora Veil). All of these are lasting effects whose potential is maximized the earlier into a battle you get.

I predicted Incineroar and Ninetales at the start and Rillaboom and Metagross later on. Though I got three of those Pokémon right, they were in the wrong order. Instead, Whimsicott showed up at the start, alongside Metagross, whose presence at the start I was confused about until it Terastallized to Dragon. That’s a very good Tera type for Metagross, as you probably won’t attack it with an Ice, Fairy, or Dragon attack, and as my team was the perfect thing to try it on, it resists Fire. There are means for this team to fight Dragon-types, as I knew a team made up solely of Grass, Fire, and Water Pokémon would attract Pokémon that resist all three, though it’s hard to tell if any of my opponent’s Pokémon are hiding a Dragon Tera type.

Though I was able to get a better idea of my opponent by the third turn, Whimsicott had already done a lot of disruption…then Whimsicott switched out for Incineroar, which was a risky move on the opponent’s part. I don’t know if they figured I would switch out Empoleon (who was trained to fight Incineroar specifically, for reasons that become clear here), but it worked out way too well on their end.

I have to say, that’s a really nice trainer card my opponent had, the one depicting Meowscarada standing on a cliffside looking into the distance. Easily the best I’ve ever seen.

My opponent’s Pokémon names were in German.
