Time for this week's Surprise Trade, I will be trading Squirtle, the original Water-type starter Pokémon from Generation 1. I breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and I went with Modest for the Nature, the Squirtle line can work with Bold or Calm, but I went with Modest because there is a set that I like using from the Squirtle line in this generation, which was a huge upgrade to it. While I do have a Blastoise with Rain Dish, I did look up possible sets, and none of them recommended Rain Dish, most of them have Torrent for the preferred Ability.
Squirtle learns a lot of Egg Moves, the ones I went with are Water Spout, Fake Out, Aqua Jet, and Yawn, Squirtle can also learn Mirror Coat, Haze, Mist, Flail, Aqua Ring, and Life Dew, I will list which parents in the Monster and Water 1 Egg Groups that can learn those moves.
Aqua Jet: Golduck, Kabuto, Kabutops, Tirtouga, Carracosta, Clauncher, Clawitzer, Popplio, Brionne, Primarina
Aqua Ring: Marill, Azumarill, Corsola, Mantine, Milotic, Tympole, Palpitoad, Seismitoad, Dewpider, Araquanid
Fake Out: Lombre, Ludicolo
Flail: Snorlax, Corsola, Lotad, Lombre, Ludicolo, Feebas, Milotic, Relicanth, Tympole, Palpitoad, Seismitoad, Stunfisk, G-Stunfisk, Clauncher, Clawitzer, Turtonator
Haze: Wooper, Quagsire
Life Dew: Lapras, Corsola, Milotic
Mirror Coat: Corsola, G-Corsola, Dewpider, Araquanid, Cursola
Mist: Lapras, Wooper, Quagsire, Lotad, Lombre, Ludicolo, Wingull, Pelipper, Snover, Abomasnow, Amaura, Aurorus, Eiscue
Water Spout: Remoraid, Octillery (Requires Chain Breeding)
Yawn: Slowpoke, G-Slowpoke, Slowbro, G-Slowbro, Snorlax, Wooper, Quagsire, Slowking, G-Slowking, Kingdra, Relicanth

A wide selection of moves, I chose Aqua Jet and Fake Out for priority, and Water Spout for a high damaging move, really good early on when Squirtle is at full health, and to get Water Spout, it learns it through Chain Breeding, the Remoraid line learn it from the Wailmer line.
In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Squirtle learns Aura Sphere and Muddy Water, it learns Muddy Water from Quagsire, Swampert, and Gastrodon, and Aura Sphere is a move that can only be found on Squirtle encountered in the Grand Underground.
For level up moves, Squirtle learns Tackle, Tail Whip, Water Gun, Withdraw, Rapid Spin, Bite, Water Pulse, Protect, Rain Dance, Aqua Tail, Shell Smash, Iron Defense, Hydro Pump, and Skull Bash. It evolves into Wartortle at Level 16, and there isn't any moves worth keeping it as Squirtle for, as it learns Water Pulse before evolving, and it learns Shell Smash at Level 35 as Wartortle, one level before evolving into Blastoise, and upon evolution, Blastoise learns Flash Cannon.
Going over TMs and TRs, I will be going over what Blastoise can learn, it can get Mega Punch, Mega Kick, Ice Punch, Hyper Beam, Giga Impact, Dig, Rock Slide, Icy Wind, Whirlpool, Brick Break, Dive, Weather Ball, Rock Tomb, Brine, Avalanche, Bulldoze, and False Swipe, and for TRs, it can learn Surf, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Earthquake, Waterfall, Outrage, Iron Tail, Crunch, Muddy Water, Gyro Ball, Aura Sphere, Dark Pulse, Dragon Pulse, Focus Blast, Zen Headbutt, Scald, Work Up, Liquidation, and Body Press, and it learns Flip Turn and Terrain Pulse for Tutor moves, and as it is a Water-type starter, it can learn Hydro Cannon and Water Pledge.
In Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, Blastoise can learn Focus Punch and Roar for possible moves, Blastoise cannot know Liquidation, Body Press, and Crunch in those games.
For online battles, Blastoise's main set is Shell Smash, and it can use Surf as its main Water-type move, while for a coverage option, it can use Ice Beam, Dark Pulse, or Aura Sphere, Blastoise can even go mixed with moves like Earthquake. It can go with defensive sets with Scald, Haze, and Flip Turn, Blastoise can Gigantamax, and its Water-type moves become G-Max Cannonade, which deals damage at the end of each turn to the opponent for four turns, but the end of turn damage doesn't work on Water-type Pokémon, Gigantamax is good on Shell Smash sets.
Blastoise did have a Mega Evolution in Generations 6 and 7, and it had Mega Launcher, powering up moves like Water Pulse, Aura Sphere, and Dark Pulse, if Mega Blastoise was still in the game, it would make a good user of Terrain Pulse when paired up with Pokémon that can set up terrain, I have tried that with Clawitzer in my online battles when paired up with Pokémon that can set up terrain for their Abilities.
The Squirtle line are really solid Pokémon when going through the main game, and while it does get Water Pulse early, having Water Spout does give them a really powerful move, even in the early stages of the game, and Water Pulse, and eventually Scald if you get the TR, can work for its main Water-type move.
