Before starting this week's Surprise Trade, I go into Mystery Gift, and there are two distributions which are live from June 12th till June 16th, so it is leading up to the release of the Isle of Armor. You can get a Galarian Meowth with Unnerve, which turns into Steely Spirit when it evolves into Perrserker, and you can earn 50 Bug Nuggets and 100 EXP Candy L, so at least they are preparing us for the upcoming DLC.
Now for the Surprise Trade, and this week I will be trading Rolycoly, and as usual, I try to breed for at least 4-5 IVs (Individual Values) and some Egg Moves, and these Rolycoly have an Adamant Nature, although some other Natures, like Careful or Impish can be good for defensive sets, or Modest for a Special attacker, because when fully evolved, it can be used as either a Physical or Special attacker, the downside is its type combination, because while Rolycoly is a pure Rock-type, it becomes Rock/Fire when it evolves into Carkol, and despite having glaring weaknesses to common types, its final form Coalossal has seen some good competitive use, specially in Double Battles.
Rolycoly can get Explosion, Block, and Mud-Slap for Egg Moves, and they do have Rock Blast, which is a level up move that Rolycoly can also get through TM, and I believe if both parents know that move, the Pokémon hatched from the Egg can get that move, because I remember it was Gen 4 which was the last game that TM moves can be passed down, or maybe it was Gen 5. I will list which Pokémon in the Mineral Egg Group can learn those moves.
Block: Sudowoodo, Stonjourner
Explosion: Roggenrola, Boldore, Gigalith, Trubbish, Garbodor, Ferroseed, Ferrothorn
Mud-Slap: Roggenrola, Boldore, Gigalith

While they are not that bad for Egg Moves, Explosion is a noteworthy move, although it doesn't half the target's Defense like in Gen 4 and before then.
Starting with Rolycoly's level up moves, it can get Rapid Spin, Smack Down, Rock Polish, Incinerate, Ancient Power, Stealth Rock, Heat Crash, and Rock Blast. When it evolves into Carkol at Level 18, it will learn Flame Charge, and at Level 34, it will evolve into Coalossal, and it can learn its signature move Tar Shot, which decreases the target's Speed and makes them weaker to Fire-type moves, and it can also learn Burn Up, which is powerful, but it will make Coalossal a pure Rock-type, as Burn Up removes the Fire-type.
Now onto TMs and TRs, and there are a lot of interesting moves Coalossal can get, like Fire Punch, Solar Beam, Dig, Self-Destruct, Reflect, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Sand Tomb, Will-O-Wisp, and Bulldoze, and for TRs, it can get Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Earthquake, Spikes, Heat Wave, Overheat, Iron Defense, Gyro Ball, Flare Blitz, Earth Power, Scald, Iron Head, Stone Edge, Heavy Slam, High Horsepower, and Body Press, so a good amount of moves it can get.
Then to go over Coalossal in the competitive scene, and Rock/Fire is a terrible defensive type combination, it is 4x weak to Water and Ground, and they are very common attacking types. While it does get a unique Ability called Steam Engine, which maximizes its Speed when hit by a Fire or Water-type move, Flame Body is preferred in Single Battles, as Coalossal is better used as a wall, and it can get access to Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Rapid Spin. It is very tough to use in Single Battles, and as far as defensive walls go, Torkoal is much better as a defensive Fire-types, and that's not saying much, because Fire-types are really hard to use defensively due to being weak to common attacking types like Water, Ground, and Rock, and for overall defensive walls, Corviknight, Ferrothorn, and Toxapex are much better options.
Double Battles are where Coalossal really shines, because its most common teammates are speedy Pokémon like Weavile and Dragapult that can use Surf to boost Coalossal's Speed thanks to Steam Engine, and the best held item for Coalossal is the Weakness Policy. Another alternative is Aqua Jet from Inteleon or Primarina, as that can be a better option in activating Coalossal's Steam Engine.
Coalossal is more preferred as a Special attacker with Heat Wave, Solar Beam, Ancient Power, and Earth Power, although it can be useful as a Physical attacker with Rock Slide, Flare Blitz, and High Horsepower. Even if these Rolycoly are bred, they cannot Gigantamax when fully evolved, although G-Max Volcalith is very good in Double Battles, and with the right moves, Coalossal can sweep teams. I do wonder if the item that makes Pokémon able to Gigantamax if they have potential only work on starter Pokémon, or if it is on any Pokémon that is capable of Gigantamax, because Coalossal is one of those Pokémon that is better Gigantamaxed than Dynamaxed.
