It seems that every two weeks we get a Wild Area Event, this one is live from October 1st till October 3rd, and in this one, the Alola Starter Pokémon will be appearing, so that is Rowlet, Litten, and Popplio, and the good thing about this event is you can catch them in any kind of ball, which is great, because before that event, you couldn't have them in anything other than a regular Poké Ball.
If you are wondering, their evolved forms do not appear in the Max Raid Battle event, so it is only the un-evolved forms that appear, so don't expect to see Decidueye, Incineroar, or Primarina in the 5 Star Max Raid Battles.
There are no guaranteed Shiny Pokémon during this event, as this event is all about giving players a chance to catch the Alola Starter Pokémon in any kind of Poké Ball they want.
I will start things off with Rowlet, its Hidden Ability is Long Reach, what that does is any of its moves that make contact will not receive any effects that are caused by contact, for examples, Abilities like Static, Poison Point, and Flame Body will not inflict status conditions, and the Pokémon will not take damage from Rough Skin or Iron Barbs, and this also affects held items like the Rocky Helmet. As with the moves Rowlet and its evolved forms can learn, it can get Leaf Blade, Shadow Claw, Brave Bird, Dual Wingbeat, Knock Off, and a few other moves, those are contact moves and work well with Long Reach. When fully evolved into Decidueye, it will learn Spirit Shackle, which is the only Gen 7 starter signature move that remains its signature move, and it can use Swords Dance to boost its Attack. Decidueye can even work as a Special Attacker with moves like Nasty Plot, Leaf Storm, Shadow Ball, and Hurricane, but you will need Overgrow to make that work, Long Reach is a decent Ability, but there are some cases where Overgrow is the preferred Ability.
Next is the Fire-type Litten, its Hidden Ability is Intimidate, and it is the best Hidden Ability out of the Alola Starter Pokémon, this is because its final evolved form Incineroar has placed in the top 5 in VGC Tournaments, and there were even times where Incineroar placed 1st in the usage charts, this is because Intimidate is a great Ability in Double Battles, and Incineroar has well balanced defensive stats, and it is a good user of moves like Fake Out and Parting Shot. As with its signature move of Darkest Lariat, that move got made into a TR, but at least Incineroar is one of few Pokémon that doesn't require a TR to learn Darkest Lariat. It learns a good selection of moves, like Flare Blitz, Throat Chop, Thunder Punch, Close Combat, U-turn, Snarl, Leech Life, Outrage, Earthquake, and a few other moves, Incineroar has good versatility that can put it to good work in battle.
Then we have Popplio, the Water-type Starter from Alola, its Hidden Ability is Liquid Voice, what this does is any of Popplio's sound based moves become Water-type, so for example, Hyper Voice will deal Water-type damage instead of Normal-type damage. Liquid Voice is best suited for Double Battles, because its final evolved form Primarina can use that to hit both targets, and for a single target move, it can use Scald or Hydro Pump. Its signature move Sparkling Aria can hurt its teammate, and I don't know whether or not to consider it Primarina's signature move anymore, because Lapras can learn that move through breeding. In Single Battles, Torrent is more preferred, and this is where Primarina can put Sparkling Aria to good use, it can learn some good Special moves, like Moonblast, Energy Ball, Psychic, Ice Beam, Hydro Pump, Scald, and a few other moves, and it can boost its Special Attack and Special Defense with Calm Mind, and another notable move is Aqua Jet for priority. Another good set with Primarina is using Whirlpool and Perish Song, but this is usually preferred on Pokémon like Lapras, Politoed, or Azumarill, as they have much better HP, Primarina does have a good Special Defense stat, so it is a decent user of the Assault Vest in battle.
