The Ditto event has been going on for almost 3 months, and the Wild Area Events we are getting are those that happen for the weekend, but anyway, this one is themed around Pokémon with tentacles, so you can find Octillery, Malamar, and Grapploct during this event. I find it strange that Tentacruel isn't even included, because this Pokémon has 80 tentacles, and you can get Tentacruel in this game.
There is a rare chance of finding a Shiny Grapploct in the Max Raid Battles during this event, so it will take me time to go over each of the Pokémon that are available during this event.
As Grapploct is the Pokémon that has a guaranteed Shiny chance during this event, I might as well go over it. Grapploct's Hidden Ability is Technician, this can be a good Ability to have, as Grapploct can learn a bunch of moves that have 60 power or less, like Circle Throw, Brutal Swing, and Power-Up Punch, Grapploct does have some good type coverage with moves like Liquidation, Ice Punch, Sucker Punch, Stomping Tantrum, and a few other moves. Limber is still a decent Ability if you want to go with Grapploct's more powerful moves like Close Combat, it has really good Attack, but what holds Grapploct back from being that good of a Pokémon is its low Speed, but it has about average HP and defensive stats, and it is outclassed by better Fighting-type Pokémon, and if Grapploct was part Water-type, as it is a creature that lives in the sea, it would be outclassed by Poliwrath.
The next one is Octillery, there have been so many funny moments in New Pokémon Snap that have involved Octillery throughout the game. Octillery's Hidden Ability is Moody, this boosts a random stat by two stages and lowers a random stat by one, it doesn't boost accuracy or evasion like it did in Generation 5, where that Ability was considered broken. I am not a fan of Moody because of how situational that Ability is, and Octillery does already get Sniper, which is good enough when equipped with a Scope Lens, and it has great versatility, it can learn Hydro Pump, Surf, Ice Beam, Flamethrower, Psychic, Sludge Bomb, Energy Ball, Flash Cannon, Sludge Wave, Liquidation, Gunk Shot, Rock Blast, Bullet Seed, Bounce, Seed Bomb, and many other moves. While Octillery does have good Attack and Special Attack, its Speed is really low, so it can be very tricky to use a Pokémon with great versatility in battle, but it does work well in Trick Room, specially with access to Water Spout.
Malamar's Hidden Ability is Infiltrator, don't even go with that, Contrary is the Ability you will want when using it, and one thing to note, when Dynamaxed, Malamar's Attack will drop after using Max Knuckle, but it can get stat boosts from Max Moves that would normally lower stats. Malamar has fairly balanced stats, Attack is its best, it has decently good Defense, but it is held back by its 4x weakness to Bug. Malamar can use Superpower, which pairs up well with Contrary to boost its Attack and Defense, so this can be good when it is up against Physical Attackers, and it can learn some good Physical moves, like Psycho Cut, Throat Chop, Rock Slide, Liquidation, and a few other moves, and it is one of few Pokémon to learn Topsy-Turvy, Grapploct can learn that move as well. Topsy-Turvy can be good at making the opponent's stat boosts the opposite, so a boosted Attack will end up becoming a lowered Attack, so there can be some good strategy in using that move.
