We have arrived in the fairy-tale city of Ballonlea, which is where Opal, the Gym Leader, awaits. First off, there are some NPCs to talk to, which give very useful items, including the Eviolite. As this is a Fairy-type Gym, we get a bunch of quizzes.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

A lot of stuff happens before them, buying TMs at Motostoke, like Reflect and Light Screen, and getting a fiery outfit to get a TM for Acrobatics, I recommend the Fire Outfit you get from Kabu after beating his Gym. Acrobatics is a really good move, as it is more powerful if the user is not holding an item, Ninjask, Drifblim, and Hawlucha are good users for that move, but many other Pokémon can benefit from the Flying-type coverage.
One NPC you battle uses a Dottler that is equipped with an Eviolite, and beating her will award you with an Eviolite of your own, if you are using a Pokémon that has yet to evolve, like Morgrem or anything that evolves at Level 40 or higher, this is a very useful item. You also get a Choice Scarf from Frank, it does surprise me as Paula was the little girl at Hammerlocke, and Frank is an old man, but the Choice Scarf is an item that locks you in one move, but your Speed is increased by 50%, this is a very popular item in competitive battling. You do get the TM for Hex in one of the houses, which I think would be Revenge in Shield, this is because for Stow-on-Side's Gym, you fight Bea in Sword, or Allister in Shield, and this is so it's not left out. If you caught a Sinistea in Glimwood Tangle, I recommend teaching it Hex, as it pairs up well with Will-O-Wisp.
Now time to take on the Gym, and we encounter Marnie and get in some dialogue, and she will give you a League Card.
There is also an in-game trade where you can trade a Galarian Yamask for a Unovan Yamask, this is the only way to get Cofagrigus in this game, and unlike its Galarian counterpart Runerigus, Cofagrigus is a Special Attacker, it will have Hex and Will-O-Wisp right away, and will learn Shadow Ball through TR. While Runerigus had a diverse movepool, Cofagrigus's Special movepool is quite limited, it can get Energy Ball and Psychic, and can use Calm Mind to boost its Special stats. It's also a decent user of Body Press, as Cofagrigus does have very good Defense, so this is not a bad option if you want to use a Cofagrigus on your team.
This Gym reminds me of Blaine's Gym in the Kanto games, except it is different, because the questions appear while battling the trainers, and you get a stat boost if you get it right, or a stat decrease if you get it wrong. If you brought along any Steel or Poison-type Pokémon, like Copperajah or Toxtricity, other alternatives include Weezing, Salazzle, Toxicroak, Steelix, Excadrill, or any others, or if you taught some TR moves, like Iron Head, Flash Cannon, Poison Jab, or Sludge Bomb to your Pokémon.
After getting past the trainers, it is time to take on Opal and her Fairy-type team, I will go over her team.
Weezing: Sludge, Fairy Wind, Tackle
Mawile: Draining Kiss, Crunch, Iron Defense, Astonish
Togekiss: Air Slash, Draining Kiss, Ancient Power
Alcremie: Draining Kiss, Acid Armor, Sweet Kiss

Opal has some defensive Fairy-types on her team, her Galarian Weezing shouldn't be too tough as it has some weak moves, because of Mawile's Steel-type, bringing a Fire or Ground-type can help, and if Mawile keeps using Iron Defense, I recommend bringing in a good Special attacker for this fight, Togekiss has Air Slash to flinch slower opponents, so having an Electric-type is another alternative to handle it. Opal will Gigantamax her Alcremie, and Max Starfall will turn into G-Max Finale, which will heal Alcremie if it has taken any damage, and even when Gigantamax wears off, Alcremie can be tough to take down, it has Acid Armor and can use Draining Kiss to heal off the damage, and it has really good Special Defense, so if you have anything that knows Toxic, I recommend using that to wear down Alcremie so you can take it out. Another thing to note is that if you are using a Salazzle, its Corrosion Ability will allow it to inflict poison on both Weezing and Mawile.
After beating Opal, we get awarded with a Fairy Badge and the TM for Draining Kiss, even though it is quite weak, the healing is not bad, this is a nice move to have on any Fairy-type Pokémon you are using, like Clefable, Togekiss, Morgrem and a few others, I do find Opal's quiz to be strange during the Gym Leader battle, because the answers is the opposite of what you would think it would be, and you can still switch out if you get an answer wrong, but this was quite an interesting Gym.
