Here's the Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! sequel that never was. Thank God. Apparently, Beam had an agreement with Nintendo to develop a sequel to Punch-Out!!, and this is what they offered up. Nintendo essentially said, "I don't think so, " and rejected it outright for its (lacking) quality. Without the Nintendo agreement there was no license to use Tyson's likeness (not that it would've lasted long, since Nintendo refused to use his name after his rape charge), so you play as Mark Tyler-totally not Mike Tyson- beating up a load of (mostly) humanoid aliens.
Power Punch II (or slightly alerted Mike Tyson's Intergalactic Power Punch, as it was originally titled) does sound a lot like Punch-Out!! on paper: you have left and right punches at varying heights, and a well-timed hit can give you a "power punch" (think star punch), but it feels wrong. Everything is super-fast and the bad guy cues can be really hard to read. It's really not a bad game, but Nintendo was right to reject it - it's not Punch-Out!!, no matter how hard it's obviously trying to be. It's a lot like George Foreman's KO Boxing, (makes sense with the same developer), but it plays a bit less smoothly. It certainly earns a lot of points for creativity though.
