There are a number of changes from the PC version to the PlayStation port of Doom. Chiefly you will be able to keep your weapons throughout the entire campaign, as opposed to losing them at the start of each chapter. This makes the latter ‘Inferno’ levels massively easier. A lot of the maps are smaller, owing to the PlayStation limitations, and still suffers from inconsistent frame rates on some of the larger maps. Tougher enemies are more scarce (Barons of Hell are often replaced with Hell Knights with only half the hit point), although the weaker enemies will often deal slightly increased damage in an attempt to compensate. The music and mood is much darker and more oppressive in this version. Unfortunately, however, the difficulty has taken a major hit as a result. Nightmare Difficulty is not even available. Some of the original maps were removed, with some new ones being exclusive to the PlayStation port. Oh and there is no Analog support. You have to strafe using the left and right bumbers which makes dodging a lot more finicky...
Before I start getting the comments saying “OMG, YA DINDU 100 POTATOES ON THIS MAP, THIS VIDEO R FAKE ‘N’ GAY’, please note that on 2 maps, it is impossible to get 100% Kills, Items & Secrets and on two others, it is very hard to due Glitches or mistakes made in porting over to the PlayStation / Jaguar Versions.
1:42:58 = 17: Fortress of Mystery: This map contains two map pick-ups, however only one can be picked up per level. As a result, it is impossible to achieve higher than 75% Items.
1:51:17 = 20: Pandemonium: One of the secrets is to enter the secret room with the Pinky Demon and Nightmare Spectre seen at 1:55:34. This does not trigger very easily (I have no idea why) and getting 100% Secrets can be hit or miss on this level.
1:56:31 = 21: House of Pain: A secret door was incorrectly labelled as a wall. As such, the secret area behind this wall, along with the soul sphere cannot be obtained. The highest stats achievable are 97% Items and 87% Secrets.
2:29:11 = 26: Hell Beneath: In the PC version, once you were trapped with the two Barons of hell (Hell Knights in this version), A nine inch nails logo was meant to appear on the floor. This was removed for copyright reasons in the PlayStation version and as such, triggering this secret is rather difficult. The best way I have found is to rush past and out as seen at 2:32:39
